OK, so part of this *may* be humblebragging, but I have some birthday-present seat-time in a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera this weekend. It's six instructor-led laps on a closed-circuit race course. Any tips/suggestions before I get behind the seat of this monster? Any Opponauts actually driven one?

(NB: And if you came to say "Don't drive the Lambo! Drive the Ferrari!" or "oh, those are terrible, you should have gone to rally school instead!" or "you're just a terrible person", then save it - the money's spent and I'm really looking forward to it)

When in doubt, flat out.

Never lift.

Always be full throttle.

To correct understeer, oversteer.

Brakes are weak; apply more power.

If your tires aren't squealing, you're not doing it right.

Bring a jacket or pillow to cover up your pant tent.

I've driven an older Gallardo (used car trade-in inspection). Only real tip is to watch out for pot hole and steep grades while pulling in or out of places. Yes, people will be taking pictures of you.

1. Don't get cocky

2. Get cocky.

3. Tell us how it went.

Yaaasss!! I'm happy for you man :) (Ok, little jelly too)

But don't get tensed, Relax and drive naturally.

Enjoy the experience and don't get bothered by how you perform.

Look up the map of the circuit to get an idea.

Also, look forward. Generally, you'd look at the road immediately in front of the car. I mean your eyes should focus on the road much much farther than where you usually look when you drive on the road. But I'm sure your instructor will tell you this...

Hoping that they have GoPro or something in the car. There will be pictures.

Is it at Las Vegas Motor Speedway?

How tall are you? At 6 feet tall with a helmet, my head was grazing the roof. The seats do not recline.

Keep the shiny side up. Oh yeah, they understeer like a motherfucker, so concentrate on keeping it straight.

I found the superlight to be a bit... light on the nose, I had to dive a bit on the brakes to get a proper bight going into non-banked turns. Not that they will probably let you flog it that hard.

Just get used to it on the first 2 laps, don't go out there like you're superman and try to break the lap record or something. Hit it hard but not so hard that you could loose control, work your way into feeling how the car will handle, then build up from there.

Best advice after having done this 3 times is listen to your instructor. The first event I did I drove a 360 Modena for 6 laps. I got more comfortable with the car and the course after every lap, so he told me to push it. By the 4th lap I was WFO on the dogleg straights and knew where the braking points should be. My turn entry speeds kept going up, and the car felt like it wanted to go faster. I drove the Gallardo at the 2nd event I went to, and enjoyed it even more. 6 laps can go by pretty quickly, so enjoy it (and get the in-car video if offered)

You're a terrible person.

Mostly because I'm not you. I wanna do that.

Sorry...I can't give any pointers...

Listen to the instructor, they wouldn't be there if they didn't know what they are talking about.

Use the first lap or two to get a feel for the car, and get the tires and brakes warmed up. A good instructor will be pushing you enough to make this happen, while keeping things under control.

Don't grip the wheel in a death-hold. Make sure you're comfortable before moving the car, and can reach the pedals easily.
