There is a Tesla Roadster that parks on Monument Circle in Indy occasionally. It's vanity plate? TESLA

I wish MA didn't charge more than double to have a vanity plate. My Volt is asking for something creative back there. Fortunately "EV" plates are free. (well not free, but they don't cost anything extra)

How do you like your Volt? I'm thinking it might be my next ride once my Cruze runs it's course. Thoughts? I always like to hear/read about actual ownership experiences. If you mildly hypermile, how far can you go on a charge?

The furthest I've gotten on a warm day was 46 miles. The newest models have a slightly larger battery. I know one guy who cruised around a closed airfield at something like 20 mph to get 80+ miles from his battery, just as a test to see if he could do it. But that's not "real world"

Real world driving I get 35-40 depending on speed. My commute is just under 30 round trip, so even in the winter most days I make it without using any gas. That said, I drive a lot more than just to work and back, so I do have to fill up with gas every 5-6 weeks (about 1100-1200 miles per tank). It's a 9 gallon tank, so I'm usually filling up about 7 gallons. On average I spend $25/mo on electricity and $25/mo on gas.

It's the most impressive car I've ever driven. I should start some kind of blog or do a Jalop style review I can refer back to when people ask. I've got 27,000 miles on it now and my average was 100 MPG until this summer when I had a family medical emergency trip and decided to drive, putting about 4,000 straight gas miles on and pulling the "Lifetime average" statistic down to 80 MPG. When I do drive all gas, it gets 35-39 mpg. I could probably get better, but when I am using gas I have places to be and usually going above the speed limit of interstate highway speeds... otherwise I would probably get better than 40 MPG on gas.

edit - here's a wonderful site full of statistics on the Volt. This link is to my car but you can get to the main page and see a lot more group averages and such.

The stats are impressive. Also, thanks for your user experience! Yes, you should do a complete writeup. I would read it. I feel like I love my Cruze and it being on the same platform as the Volt, I feel like I would love it too.
