Looked like this. Might have been a real SS, probably wasn't, but I don't care.

Doesnt look it, real SS's should not have those strips unless they are pace cars, and the SS emblem is is the wrong place on the grill. The SS on the fender is off set too, probably a plain Jane wannabe.............

Good luck ever finding a REAL z/28 from that era with a 302 DZ engine. I've yet to see one in all the car shows I have been to.

That's not the one I saw, just a picture from Google of a black 69 with white stripes.

Weren't the stripes just on the Rally?

Z/28, but people put the stripes on what ever they want to.

the stripes were only std on pace cars and Z/28s but there were an option that you could order even on SS cars but most came with the Hockey Stripe.

I've seen a handful of them, but the DZ code is 69 only. So a 67-68 Z/28 should have either an MO or ME coded block. Biggest difference was 69 had a 4 bolt main. 67s were the last year of the vent tube in the back of the block.
Just to see a Z/28 with a 302 period a sight anymore

Also 69's were a large journal block pre-69 is small journal. 69's use a 350 block pre-69 327 block + 283 crank.

No 68 is large journal, I swear my 327 in my 68 (#s matching block) is a large journal. But it's been 13 years since I rebuilt it. I thought of sticking a 283 crank in mine. I have the whole top end as a 302

I thought that 68 was split year with 302's

that's probably the reason for two different codes used in 68. I haven't dine much reading on the specific when it comes to Z28s, my head explodes everytime I log into the Camaro Research Group

I think the reason was the high demand for the SS meant that at launch 350 blocks were already used, plus the 350 block would have required a new large journal 3in crank. i'm a bit fuzzy on my 'maro history.

I have yet to see an all original documented, 69 with the above stripes that was not a pace car coupe, convertible, or a z/28.

A guy I went to high school with got a '69 SS when he turned 17. His father had it for a while and restored it to pristine condition to give to him as a b'day present. Anyway, the had it painted black with white stripes professionally and it was bad ass. I wonder what ever did happen to that car? Not that this adds anything to the discussion really, I just thought I'd share.

I'm not saying that there is oneout there but it was offered in 69, Also the main reason you wouldn't see one is because you couldn't get it from the factory with the SS hood. It would have to a be a factory cowl hood car to get the stripes on a SS
