At least that's what Google and the CA DMV seems to think.

Honestly I probably trust the google car more than other random drivers at this point

The autonomous car is more likely to have liability insurance.

As everyone else already said. CA drivers can't really drive, so I too would take the self-driving car over CA drivers.

You know, there are days when I honestly wouldn't mind it. Especially on traffic jam days. However in the long run, I could see this being bad for people that like to drive because your skills would degrade. I you don't use it, you lose it kind of thing.

ehh. I would welcome it on my daily commute. Driving like a normal human being does not require many 'skills'. You would still have your track days and what not for your skill usage. but self driving cars that follow parameters like, keep left except to pass and maintain constant speed would vastly help with congestion and fuel economy.

I don't know. I had an experience this morning that could have ended badly without some skills. A lady was texting on her phone, while passing me on the right in a pretty heavy downhill curve....I was not pleased with her. Somehow she did not see my Russo red Fiat. It couldn't be a louder color if it actually screamed at you.

But if she was in a self driving car her texting and lack of attention paying would not have been an issue...

True, but if it were reversed would the self driving car stay in lane or dodge the other car? While they will always obey laws and speed limits, I have to wonder how they will react to real world driving situations.

They will react within legal limits. there are SO MANY sensors on those things they can predict what you are going to do before you even think about doing it.

I'm all for it until uncle sam tries to mandate self driving vehicles.

Not sure that they could do that legally. Honestly considering the shitty state of public transport in this country, it may be the only alternative to stream line things in congested areas.

I agree with the idea, but as always is in good ole 'Merikah, instead of actually addressing the issue, it's just a short sighted temporary bandage. The real solution to 99% of the issues is proper driver education, certification, re-certification, and enforcement. But, since it is much easier and more profitable to do things like mandate self driving vehicles, then it is more likely to happen.
