So as I was getting all the photos off my old iPhone 3gs from a few years back, I found these. These are pictures of my prisitine, beautiful, incredible, lovely 2011 M3 ZCP (with a manual, of course) immediately after it was totaled. It had less than 5k miles on it. A sad, sad day. I'm pretty sure the old guy that hit me was ok, and so was I, so at least nobody was badly hurt...

Basically, I was driving straight down a straight road, when a really old guy in a Hyundai Santa Fe made a left through a cut in the median without yielding (or looking at all, I guess) and he hit me square in the front quarter. The impact completely broke a wheel off, as you can see, and crushed my left foot a little bit. Here is a highly scientific reconstruction of what happened:

And here are a few more pics. Sorry, they are terrible quality, but I guess I was really shaken up at the time. And my foot hurt pretty bad.

So, goodbye, sweet M3. May your individual throttle bodies and double VANOS prance around in engine heaven somewhere.

Edit- sorry guys, didn't just want to give you a sob story, so heres what it was replaced with but a few months later :)

And thankfully, it lived a long and happy life! Here it is when it turned 10!

Do you still get a little skittish near a merge? After I hung up a 6 month old car a few years ago in a light rain highway speed collision it took a while to shake off the nerves.

Nope — quarter panel. Bent frame and door wouldn't open. I think I bounced my head off the A-pillar but it may have been off the visor bar — 50 year old seat belts are not the best safety mechanism available today. I didn't realize my head was busted open until I jumped out over the door and a deluge of blood hit the street. I won't post the pictures of that carnage, though, so as to avoid ruing anyone's dinner. Here's a picture of the Roush Stage 3 Mustang I bought as a replacement.

Me too. Was an absolutely beautiful car. All original. Won many awards. Passenger visor signed by Carroll Shelby (yeah, the insurance company didn't get that — it was the one thing my 13 yo son wanted from the car, so I think I'm raising him right). I was already at the hospital, but apparently the cop told the guy, "You couldn't hit a Camry? You had to destroy a vintage Mustang?"

I think so, once you get past the manual-in-traffic issue, not wanting to park near anyone, and the horrible gas mileage (14.7 mpg with a lot of highway driving). There's a quarter-mile or so tunnel between my house and the gym with little traffic early in the morning, so there's nothing better than slowing down to about 20 and dropping the hammer through there! oh, you probably will have to explain to a fair number of folks what a Roush Mustang is. Lol

Very sad. Damn bad drivers.

Last weekend I saw a pretty epic bad driver. This girl was waiting in a left hand turn lane. It was a major intersection and she had a red arrow. There was a sign that said no u turn.

She made the u turn while the light was still red. And then I saw she was holding her cell phone to her head (illegal here).

So she broke 3 laws:

1. Illegal u turn

2. Running a red light

3. Driving while holding handset

Unfortunately there was no cop around to catch her. I wonder what the cost of the ticket would have been if she was caught. Would she just get charged for one infraction or all 3? And if all three would they simply be summed up or is there some sort of escalator for breaking 3 laws at the same time?

My first car was a Lexus IS250 awd (wasnt a big fan), next was a 328xi (I liked it but I wish it was RWD and manual), and then came the M3.

What I miss more than anything is driving a manual, and what I like most about the AMG is the volcanic eruption tidal wave of 600 torque.
