I'm torn, because the stronger G-Body is the Aurora, which is the coolest car since the original Toronado Olds made, but at the same time, this looks like this, is 2 doors, and also a Riviera.

I'll hold my opinion until Murdersofa dies.

I always liked the shape of these!

Also, this one time in Florida I saw a guy in one of these painted bright orange with Lambo doors, complete with 22's. He literally sat in a parking lot with the doors up, watching people look at his car. Just throwing that out there...

One of the few GM things i like. 3800 series supercharged engines. My uncle had an 04 Grand Prix GTP (or maybe it was a GXP, i cant remember) but that thing hauled some serious ass. Also when we were beating on it, it had 250,000+ miles on it. He sold it with 28x,xxx miles on it

How much did you pay?

How reliable was it?

How was the gas mileage?

How is the interior fit and finish?

How was the handling?

Were there any small things that annoyed you or didn't make sense?

One of these was at the last autocross I was at and absolutely roflstomped me, so my interest is definitely piqued.

1.) $3000 for the 2001, $900 for the '95

2.) LMFAO

3.) Like, 15 on a good day

4.) Actually pretty fantastic

5.) both were boaty as shit for different reasons. The '01 had a whupped front suspension, was terrifying. The 1995 was before they did anything to handling at all so it felt like every other full sized gm car of the era.

6.) elaborate?

I was impressed, then i remembered the "buick lesabre" part.

With all due respect, Doctor, I would argue the hip hop is just on life support. It's been in critical condition since 2005 but recently we've been seeing hints at some frontal lobe activity. Not much, but there just might be a sliver of hope.

Mainstream rap, on the other hand, is fucked. Just burry her already. Damn.

The Aurora and the Riviera were pretty, pretty cars. I'd never own one, though.

My parents had a gen1 Aurora - it was spiffy as fuck but they sold it after a year. Partly because it guzzled premium fuel like Kardashians guzzle mangravy, and partly because in a few thousand miles shit was going to start breaking.

The Northstar puts the starter under the intake plenum. 12 hours book time. The alternator's like 6 or 7 hours. AC compressor, you just shoot it and bury it in a shallow grave. Steps for changing the plugs include "unbolt upper motor mounts", "put car in reverse to rock motor towards radiator", and "chain engine to core support". The battery is a monstrosity that lives under the back seat with a bank of like 50 fuckin' relays.

I've personally heard reports of Auroras where the alternator internals shit themselves and overcharge the battery. In a normal car, this melts the battery under the hood and maybe gives you an engine bay fire. In an Aurora it sets the fucking back seat on fire while you're driving.

All the relays is because every button on the dash and the door cards lights up. Being late-90's and early-00's GM, it's like a Goddamn Airbus cockpit in there... and you get to watch the lights wink out one or two at a time as the electronics pack up.

If you don't change the DexCool in the Northstar enough (or if you don't switch to conventional coolant), it'll start corroding the aluminum in the motor. The block and heads are aluminum... as is parts of the head gaskets... and if you actually overheat a Northstar (say, due to a bad head gasket) the block warps and it'll eat head gaskets like fat kids eat cake.

A friend of mine had a black Riviera. They scrapped it because the fuel pump shit the bed... and *none* of the gauges on the dash worked anymore... along with the interior lighting. I didn't grill her for details but the mechanic said something about the ECM for the gauges and the BCM for the lights.

Yep, Northstars are a maintenance nightmare, which is the reason I'm not getting a Cadillac STS. And I'm leaning away from the Aurora because I'm not familiar with any of the engines they used in there.

I like my 3800s

I think it has to do with the rounded corners...

Now, my LeSabre... holy overhangs batman.

Kinja'd!!!

It's worth noting that mine sits lower to the ground than that. I have to use 2x4s as ramps just to get onto my car ramps so I can work on it.

1. Cheap to insure

2. Cheap to buy (around here, a decent S/C Buick is ~$3000)

3. Easy to work on

4. I know my way around the engine

5.Comfy, lots of features

6. Reliable

7. Very easy to get stupid amounts of power out of it

8. Pretty good on gas

9. Attractive

10. The Riviera was a flagship car when it came out

Having driven a friend's Aurora, and worked on it.... It's an awesome car, and handles surprisingly well for its size.

So does the Olds 88 LSS, for that matter. Mmm, Oldsmobile...

The alternator is a solid 6 hours on the first-gen Aurora. Trust me, I know that one from experience with a friend's...

Step 1: Jack the car up and pull the right front wheel.

Step 2: Drain the coolant and pull the radiator.

Step 3: Open the glovebox and curse that you used all the ammo at the firing range.

Step 4: Crawl under the car and unbolt the damn alternator

Step 5: Cut the serpentine belt, because the tensioner is a bitch to release.

Step 6: Get out from under the car, and pull the alternator out from the top, because it won't clear from underneath.

Step 7: Bolt on the fucking alternator

Step 8: Get an 8 ft. long, 3/8" socket extension to pull back on the tensioner release like Godzilla pulling a building down.

Step 9: Borrow a friend's truck to hold the tensioner release in place, while you use the 20 seconds before it slips back into place, to put the belt on.

Step 10: Beg for lightning to strike.

Step 11: Finish putting the car back together in the dorm parking lot, only to have to go get some Dex-Cool, because you didn't plan on pulling the radiator. At least the boat was parked over a storm drain...

Step 12: Remind said friend of the Aurora alternator incident, every time he asks why he's buying all the beer.
