Eterna ZR-4. Basically a liftback version of the Galant VR-4. Evolution spec cars with the 16G turbo, big front mounted intercooler, and 240hp as well as 4 bolt rear and clutch rear LSD are legal to import next year.

This mixes a lot of things I like. 4 doors, a good AWD setup, good stock components, and 80s style lift back.

If I got one I would probably just get the car dyno tuned to take full advantage of the 16G and otherwise leave it stock.

Anyone else like this?

Heres some VR4 export vs JDM differences forum post I found:

http://www.galantvr4.org/ubbthreads/sho…

Updated with rear view

Talked to the person I used as an importer after a friend of mine I sent this too said he wanted one. He said they are unicorn status. No auctions in the past 3 months have had one and no dealers have them. Might be one of those cars I would really have to want in order to get.

I have a weak spot for Turbo Mitsubishis going back to the Conquest/Starion days.

Same for me. I see this car with the liftback as kind of a Starionish quality to this car which is one reason why I like it.

That is sooooooo rad! I saw a Galant SE with a 5 speed yesterday. Pretty decent shape for its age, although I was stupid NOT to take a picture. Although the own wasn't too happy with me staring at it! XD

It's kind of weird but Galant VR4s from this time I only ever see in good condition. I think the sedate looks keep the ricers away lol

Own a DSM, completely forgot these existed. Also finding a clean VR4 someone is willing to sell is near impossible. Yes, I would like one imported to me. ... I at least would very much like the clutch type lsd rear to replace my viscous lsd. Apparently there is a pretty big difference in performance, no suprise there. The Lap Of America guys running a VR4 were trying to find one last I spoke to them in their garage space at the Glen, it comes on quicker than the vlsd which they were still running so obvi it helps turn the car more.

Alls I'd need to make it work on my car is the right axle and shaft cup to a VR4 and a bunch of other random parts... hooraay

To buy my Skyline I used Japanese auto auctions and took a few months to find a good one. In that time I saw 3 good VR4s. The difference though is usually when you are shoppin gfor a car you usually are looking locally. If I looked on global Craigslist I could probably find a VR4 right now.

The bonus to one of these evolution cars is that you simple wouldn't need to mod it aside maybe a tune plus wheels & tires. Already has a good FMIC, already has clutch lsd, already has 4 bolt rear, already had a turbo capable of 300whp. That pretty much would be an ideal car right there for any type of driving. However I don't feel the need for these monster 400+whp cars people build. A 300whp awd car at 2900lbs is fast enough for me.

Almost positive this is where they got the idea for the 1st gen eclipse/talon/laser.

"...Guys the Eterna will probably scare the shit out of most Americans-but I like that hatch. Fuck it, hack two doors off and give it a corny name like the muscle on American Gladiators and everyone will eat that shit up."

lmao. Probably, I could imagine it.

Could you imagine if they sold this car in the US with it's full 240hp in 1990? People would of had heart attacks. I would of owned one for sure.

Shit ...my car also weighs 2900lbs and I only have the two doors, s'bullshit! ...So thats how you import a Skyline/JDM car efficiently. Sounds a hell of a lot better than MotoRex back in the day. A bully idea, and enviable purchase, good sir. Yeah I was thinking it should be that easy to craigslist a VR4, but its those extra bits that make Mitsubishi compelling.

I had the "big"16G ported turbo from this mitsu era for a while, along with other jaydeem engine bits....can you love a turbo? Spool and the following acceleration were violent for such a small diameter. Probably the easiest thing I can swap over that I haven't are evo8 or 3000gtvr4 big brakes, but then I'd need at least evo8 17's to fit them, which I will do. It never ends.

Can you ask your importer friend about the probable likely hood of me actually getting a Eunos Cosmo next year when the JC's become old enough to dodge the ban? I'm actually kind of serious about this question and if I can get one for less than I can sell the current stable for, I'll probably jump on the opportunity.

Grrrrrr, on the auction site there aren't any average sale prices for the 20B variants. It looks like their pricing is pretty fair and that in most cases the fees and shipping come out to less than $2500USD which is definitely reasonable though. Now if only I could see the selling prices... think they're going for less than $5-6k?

Well a Supra goes for a little more than that so i'm betting it would go for that or less.

I think I will. I really can't decide if picking one up would be the best idea ever or a horrible financial decision... I know the prices sometimes jump once they go up for being able to import, but since this is more of a cult classic and less of a generally sought after car, maybe that won't happen. It would still probably be advisable to grab one before 2015 and have it stored until you could start the importation process just to be safe.

I'm betting they won't be much money. RWD coupes all seem to be fairly inexpensive. Like $4000-$6000 is the high end for cars like that unless it's some special edition. Even then Infini FC RX7 are still in that price range or less and they are fairly rare.

The only thing that went really up in price by a large margin was the GTR.

They are something special though... I know in Australia they average somewhere in the neighborhood of $12k if they have less than 100k miles and are in decent shape, but I can't find any data on any that have sold in Japan recently. The drivetrain along fetches $6,000 if you want to snag one and import it...
