Thank you for posting this. I was wondering what the wheelman did to deserve the slap. After watching this video, I can say for sure that I still don't know.

I thought it was the head mechanic (who is usually the front jack man) but it appears that it's this guy. Right?

I saw that and wondered the same. It could have been something completely unrelated to the pit stop, a carry over from something that happened in the garage.

No idea. Looked like he was fiddling with his wrench at the end. Maybe there was a readout that showed he was four thousandths of a second slower than the others, and that always gets you the slap.

Meanwhile in the United States, that guy would've been on his back taking shots to the chin.

I think it has to do with the fact that he watched the car drive away. No one else was watching the car, it's probably something they've been trained not to do for one reason or another, probably safety.

he was certainly looking that way in teh second shot, but as the car left he seemed to be looking straight ahead like everyone else

ok, my legit guess, he looks to hold his gun up whilst everyone else is pulling hands and equipment close to their body. maybe?
