I've taken a hydrofoil through a typhoon before - even flight didn't stop a huge wave from throwing me six inches off my seat. They're pretty calm and smooth when conditions are normal though.

Yup. The government's built a suspension bridge connecting the mainland with Lantau now. That way, people can drive to the airport without having to take a ferry.

Makes sense, I guess, but it does take away that James Bond sense of adventure you got by taking the hovercraft.....
