I messed up.

Yup...I messed up when I bought this. When I bought it at the time, I didn't care about anything else but the car, my job and going out Wednesdays only. I just didn't see the future.

It's been 2-3 weeks that I'm dating a girl almost everyday (this is why I didn't show up much here) and even though it's still early to say if I'm in love with her, I feel that I finally found my match somewhat. It's the first girl that I have nothing to complain about since forever and is extremely comprehensive to any situations happening in my life. But now because of that, I'm in a financial slump.

The car payments are getting annoying. The gas mileage is getting annoying since I do highway at 3-3500 Rpm and it costs me almost 80$ per week of gas.... The savings that I was doing are getting used for gas or going to places. For 2 weeks in a row, I had my bank account down to zero! The credit card is getting out of hand too... I have a bunch of events during the next 3-4 weeks and payements are coming in at the same time. I just feel uncomfortable. I could say to her again that I'm in a financial slump and that I can't go out much to see her (she pays her own stuff fyi), but I feel like shit for doing that for this week too...

I actually thought of selling the NA, parts that I have in the garage, stuff...or get rid of the NC for a much cheaper car but nothing can replace it. I love it too much. I just dunno what to do...tips?

if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. maybe sell both and get a clean NB or a higher mileage NC.

I wish i could give some advice, just hang on there, to the girl and the car! I have no experience with relationships but id say dont stop going out with her, i dont know how women think, but she could think its a sign you dont want to continue with her.

I would say sell the NA and the parts (for it?). Maybe it's better to keep only one car for now and reduce the car-related expenses.

You're going to have to dump the car. That or get a second job somewhere. If there's no room for a second job, then it's time to reconsider a car payment that is clearly a financial burden to you at this point.

I always buy my cars with cash in hands... a monthly payement on a used car is never, ever, a good idea... If you can't afford it, there is nothing much you can do... Sell it and keep the NA. You'll be happy to see all that money in the bank and you'll quickly forget the car... Keep in mind it's just a NC miata, it's far from a rare and unique car, there will always be one to buy anytime you'll want to.

Miata brother - take your finances by the reins now. Sell a car if necessary. I'd sell the one that you're making payments on and get something cheap to own and reliable. You can get in a financial hole really quickly, and that hole can last for years and years. Credit card interest rates are wild, and this can put the hurt on you for a decade in a hurry.

And if you really feel like this is going places, you need to be upfront with the girl about your financial situation. If this thing is built to last, she won't care and will respect you for being upfront.

Gas mileage? What do you do to that thing? I drive highway at 4k for 25min each day and i get 28-29 mpg in my 03. Car payments do suck,but do you want to look back and ask yourself why you sold your car you love. Also if you dont have money to go to events then dont go! Set out a budget of what you can spend each week and dont exceed it.

Well, that's understandable. But you are still in a situation where you have to decide whether to keep both cars or have money to spend in something with your girl. I can tell you I felt kinda the same way when I traded my Corolla for a 330Ci, because since then I spend more money in gas or parts, I 'can't' park it wherever I want (I just don't want dings or dents), or carry the same stuff, but my girl and I have learned to live with it now. We just use her car as much as possible. I would say really think if you can't get another trophy further down the road when money is less of an issue.

Check gap for sure. Also any codes? Even if one isn't illuminating on the dash i would scan it just in case. Also straight pipe yields +2 mpg. (At least on my 03)

....could it be the CAT? I had a noise that felt like a heat sheild is loose during cold mornings and diseappear in the next 5 minutes. Last time I had a noise like that, it was the cat that needed to be replaced. I haven't felt a drop in performance tho...

Yes a clogged car could cause worse mpg but it would throw a code so i dont think it is that. Id start with spark plugs and go from there

Yeah, that be cool. I had to teach my girl how to maintain the car (a neglected VW Polo), and fix a couple things. Her father (previous owner) just doesn't care about cars, and her sister doesn't care either which is a shame since she has a MkII GTI that is a blast to drive but is falling appart.
