Do you guys/gals have the Astra? I noticed whilst reading the article on the Regal GNX that there is a new Buick LaCrosse convertible for 2016, as this is the same as the Vauxhall/Opel Cascada which in itself is an Astra convertible it begs the question do you have or rather why don't you have the Astra.

We don't and it's a damn shame, I love the design language of the Astra/Corsa that you guys get in Europe! We got the fifth-gen Astra as a Saturn, but once Saturn was killed off GM switched over to the Cruze as its compact car offering since it had already begun production here in the States a few years prior to the introduction of the current Astra, saving them the work of federalizing a new model.

With the advent of the Vauxhall Viva/Opel Karl soon and the Vauxhall/Opel Adam already out in U.K./Europe it would make sense to do as Ford are looking towards and having a universal system and bring the Corsa and Astra across. You have the:
Vauxhall/Opel Astra Cascada = Buick LaCrosse convertible,
Vauxhall/Opel Insignia = Buick Regal,
Vauxhall/Opel Mokka = Buick Encore.
I can't help but think something is being missed with all these hatchbacks and tourers where Ford is cashing in on the Fiesta and Focus. Corsa could take on Fiesta and Astra take the Focus.

Next years Vauxhall/Opel Corsa tweak.
3 door
5 door
(looks like the Corsa is retaining the 'flex-fit option of cycle carrier hidden behind the licence plate) (similar to the Astra unit).

That definitely seems to be GM's endgame, starting with the Cascadia and Regal and Encore (which is the Mokka on your side of the Atlantic). I bet if GM introduced the Corsa and Astra and undercut the Fiesta and Focus by a few thousand dollars they'd sell like mad. Add a few VXR models with more HP than the equivalent Fords and they'd end up with a lot of black numbers on their quarterly revenue reports.

So true. Mind Ford are missing out on selling you guys the Focus tourer/estate so I think there are people in both camps that aren't quite on the ball really.
I guess just because they are in management doesn't mean they know how to manage.

It's the accountants who are getting in the way! I'd love to see the Focus estate sold in the States, but to be honest I don't think it'd sell well enough to warrant the effort. Americans would rather own a crossover/CUV instead of an estate because estates in the U.S. have this weird, uncool "dad-car" stigma attached to them from too many family road trips in the 70's, which sucks because there's a bunch of really good-looking estates out right now. Do crossovers sell especially well in Europe and the U.K.? I was in Spain and Portugal a few months ago and I didn't see too many of them.

CUVs probably not so much as SUVs to be honest the likes of Nissan's Qashqai sells very well in the U.K. along with the Hyundai ix35 and Kia Sportage.
Estates still sell quite well with the Ford Focus and Mondeo.

It's a great idea. It's been on the Corsa, Astra, and I think either the Meriva and Zafira or both. There is an option to carry more bikes up to four and it pivots down out of the way so you can still use the tailgate (though not as accessible with the bikes as without ot obviously).
