I like cheap whiskey n coke (unless its a special occasion then its the good stuff).

I drive the nFamous Stringbean .. I call it that since my phone always corrects Sebring to Stringbean.

I like to make cars kawaii.

I'm 27 and my IT background has lead to me a pretty un-jalop occupation. There's not a whole lot I can say about it but if you've been in Va south of Richmond and East of Charlottesville and gotten a red light ticket, well, those systems and cameras are all single-handedly maintained by me (we have a remote team that provides support but Im the only field tech in the area.)

So let's have it

Usually they say something about it being a dirty old man car once I mention what it is.. then something along the lines of "well I wasn't expecting that" after they do see/hear/experience said Bean

And here I always suspected you were C.J. Wilson's secret account. I think like a third of Oppo is in I.T. Despite not loving redlight cameras and my town hating them so much they forced the government to remove them I think working with them can be pretty cool. I bet you've seen tons of cool videos you probably can't share.

I wish I still had my red light ticket video. I was shocked I got one and thought for sure it was a mistake so I went to watch the video. It shows the light green and I shout "I'm not even there! See!" Then it turns yellow and red and I thought maybe you'd see me WOT gunning for the light and still nothing "I knew they were wrong" The light stays red a few more seconds. Then what do you see? My Jeep casually sailing through at 35 like I didn't even see it. I died of laughter and counted my blessings I didn't get T-boned.

So how bout it, got any cool stories?

Oppo does have a lot of IT I've noticed and it's pretty broad in specialties too which I think is awesome.

Considering we see hundreds of tickets a day the videos aren't as appealing anymore. Its more of a "look... someone else running a light" What got me was how often people do it and so blatantly.. like 4 or 5 seconds after the light has turned red. The sales team uses a compilation video of accidents resulting from people running the reds to help sell the product. I've seen at least a half dozen accidents occur just from when I'm on site working on the cameras. Then I also have a collection of videos of people knocking over our towers and light poles (where the flash is mounted.) Those are a whole lot of fun because I usually get a call after hours or on the weekend from the police department which means I have to gear up, head out, secure everything, then work with our contractors to get everything put back up followed by spending at least a full day rebuilding the computers, cameras, systems, making sure they working, focusing, syncing, etc. DON'T FUCKING HIT THE POLES THEY WONT SLOW YOU DOWN AND WE WILL CHARGE YOUR INSURANCE A LOT OF MONEY.

Honestly most of the time people are upset about them is because they've been busted, and I get that- I'd be mad if a cop busted me for running a light. But it's only $50 here and no points on your license. (Dont bring it to court because the judge will pull up the video, watch you run it, laugh at you, then slap court fees on top of the $50 ticket). Just stop.. literally. All you have to do is stop. Simple as that.

Yeah they don't bother me a whole ton because it doesn't do a lot to change my driving habits. $50 sounds like a sweet deal. I got dinged for $125. I can't imagine fighting it after looking at the video. I looked at mine and once I saw me run it I figured it was time to get out my credit card.

One of the things I think really pissed off people around here was ours were red light/speed cameras and 1) a lot of people speed (moderately) everywhere in town here and 2) It was right as you cross a bridge going from a 40 to a 35.

The speed cameras are a whole other story. Its a lot harder to prove given there isnt an accurate way to show the violation itself. I can say those systems are regularly calibrated on a regular basis.

But yeah, it is a pain given that traffic more often times will dictate the flow rather than the speed limit itself.
