I went for yet another refill today and the gas station ran out of gas before I ran out of space. By my calculations, I needed about 10 liters of gas (my car does about 6.5 kpl, and the odometer is clocking in at 69 km), but they only had 4 liters left, so, yeah, I beat the gas station. I still got my sweepstakes coupons though...

I'm going to come off as an ignorant American, but what the hell is a 'kpl'?

I'd guess kilometers per liter. You know, the metric system.

Your Tipo only gets 6.5 km on a liter of fuel? Do you only only drive in horrible stop and go traffic, is gasoline of a horrible quality where you are or is there something wrong with your engine? That can't be normal.

Kilometers per liter. 6.5 of those is about 16 EmPeeGees

Ah, that makes sense. I initially thought it was similar to the 'kp/cm2' on the oil gauge in my Porsche.

It's pronounced EhmPuhGuh, thank you very much. Also, I don't think I've ever had a gas station run out of gas on me before.

I'm... not ruling out engine problems, as I used to get 7-7.5 a while ago, but traffic has been beyond horrible lately, far, far beyond horrible. I've never, in my entire life, driven in traffic as bad as I have this semester. And even the best fuel Brazil has to offer is far from being good. Believe it or not, that's about normal for this car...

Duly noted :)

Yup, neither had I, that explains why I got this achievement unlocked baloon floating over my head now.

Is it really? Looking at the (euro) stats of the 2.0 16V Tipo it's said to get 10.6 km per L combined, which I already consider horrible. But that's a combined rating, I have no knowledge about the type of traffic you encounter or about possibly different engine tuning for the South American markets. I used to get 14-15 km from a liter of regular gasoline from my old '91 mk2 Golf, and stopped driving that car partly because of the bad fuel economy... I mostly do highway kilometers though.

What are you going to do with the Harley? Sell it for parts money?

Edit: Car was running on fumes last month, so I had to stop at the first gas station I found. They only had 10 liters and their debit card machine broke as I was going to pay, and I had no money with me. So I got 10 liters for free! Which was enough to go to a decent gas station.

Pretty much. I wouldn't mind keeping it, or, even better, trading it in for a Triumph Thruxton, but I don't have an A license and nowhere to keep it, plus I could really use the money.

An A license is not really an issue. 80% of bikers don't even have a B.

I'm sure the money would be very welcome, especially by the Tipo. How's the parts hunting going, BTW?

Badly... It's hard to figure out what's interchangeable between the SV and the 1.6 because no compatibility guides cite the SV, ever, and lately I've been using up more fuel, and the car seems to be running a bit hotter than it did, so I want to do a full engine checkup as soon as possible, but I gotta go back home for that because whatever shop I take it to will treat it as if it was the 1.6, swap good parts for incompatible ones and then it'll start throwing error codes left and right...

Can you repeat that for us, this time in English?

Damn! Sorry to hear this.

You got the tools to do the service yourself or do you have a mechanic at home?

There was a parts shop here in São Paulo called "Twingo auto peças - Peças para carros raros" near my friend's house. Gotta love this name. They were specialised in this kind of stuff. It was huge. But he just told me they closed last year. They had a whole section for Lancias and Alfas.

I wonder what they did with their stock
