First thing's first, credit to oppo's own shoopmaster Maxyenko for the awesome lead shoop.

Now, you're all familiar with my BMW 2002, right? My first classic car, first failed project, first german car, yadda yadda yadda. Anyway, it's gone now. And not as in "it was parted out" or "it was sold to someone who would complete it", but gone as in "not even salvaged but scrapped and headed to the crusher." But hey, I'm $150 richer now. And you know what? I'm glad it is going to the crusher. It needed to be done. I bought that car at a shitty time in my life and it was the last reminder.

Also, sorry SmoresTM, but the township was on my ass about having a junk car sitting in the driveway (fuckin' neighbors called the cops).

"Hello? 911? Yeah, that crazy dude who blasts rap music and rambles on about strange cars no one likes has had this car outside for months. It's a danger to me and my family. Have him arrested."

My next-door neighbor has a 427 Cobra replica that he's building for drag racing, and the guy across the street has a '71 GTO and 11 second Chevy S10. They probably just found out about my plans to put a Hellcat V-8 in the Bimmer and decided to sabotage me so I wouldn't make them look like total pussies in front of their hot wives.

I know they can be a pain in the *ss. My 02-projekt is taking up way more resources in both time and money than I eventually planned for. But the adoration will return again I'm sure. Don't fight it.

You trashed a 40+ year old semi-classic car because it "reminded you of a bad time in your life"?

You f'n woman.

Seriously, anyone that can't appreciate a 2002 needs to reevaluate his enthusiast status. These are some of the easiest cars to work on in the world, dead nuts reliable, and so fulfilling to drive at the limit. Mechanical fuel pump, points ignition, single downdraft carb, SOHC 8v 4 banger, huge parts market. These are baby's first sports car in terms of ease of maintenance.

Maybe a Hyundai Santa Fe or a Kia Soul is more your speed. I hear those have real good warranties.

Fuck 'em. I don't like 2002s. I understand why people do, but I don't fuckin' like 'em. I thought I would, I was wrong. Gimme a '64 Impala or '70 olds droptop, but keep the 2002. And in all fairness the bad time in my life was crippling depression and substance abuse issues that nearly lead to suicide, so yeah. It's time for a change.

That's like saying "fuck chocolate ice cream, it doesn't taste like pulled pork BBQ". If you were looking for a sled, why in God's name did you buy a ~100 hp euro econobox sports sedan?

I'd say "were you high", but, yea, I guess so.

I wasn't looking for anything in particular when I got it. Anyway, the tin worm had its way with the car, and I was lucky to finally find a scalper to take it.

Yeesh this sounds like the logic for keeping up with crazy diets.

Works for you? Oh its the diet, its miraculous!

Doesn't work for you? You're doing it all wrong! Its never the diet's fault. I mean, sure its a great diet and it worked for other people. But maybe you don't want to eat like its the bronze age? Maybe you got into it because you thought you'd give it a shot?

Don't get me wrong, I love and adore cars. But if I got myself in a project that turned sour, I would have my apprehensions about said car as well.

No worries, Ben! I hope this takes a weight of your mind. As much as I hate to hear about an '02 being crushed, it's preferable to it causing a good dude any form of real distress.

Time to pick up a 6-deus!

Kinja'd!!!

On a Raplopnik related note, have you heard of Run the Jewels? A buddy of mine showed me one of their songs a couple weeks ago and I'm hooked. It's Killer Mike and El-P. Definitely worth a listen.

Super sad to hear! No one would buy it? If it would've been able to make the trip from Jersey to VA I could have come to pick it up. (not that my wife would've been okay with it but this is hypothetical so fuck it.)

Good to have some weight dropped off your shoulders, homie!

Honestly, it's not that sad. Sure it was my first classic, but it was a lost cause. Rotted strut towers, hardcore rust on every panel, holes in the floor……I'm glad it's gone. It's going to be recycled and used for other stuff and it's no longer rotting in my driveway.

I sold a 97 SHO for scrap once. Three weeks later I see it driving down the road. The guy I sold it to, sold to an SHO fanatic. It looked really happy with it's new owner.

It'd be one thing if he parted it out, there's a huge 02 community in the northeast, and lots of bits on these cars are quickly going NLA. Instead, he dumped the whole thing to a scrapper and had it crushed.

What year? My brother's 1976 VW Bus has been sitting in our driveway since 2008, by local laws any car older than 1978 can sit in a person's driveway forever and can't get ticketed.

Ah. If you lived where I do, whoever called the cops wouldn't have anything to stand on.

However, having recently sold a car I greatly enjoyed but brought up bad memories, enjoy your freedom. You won't regret getting rid of the thing.
