"Decay buys too many beaters" (decay)

I went for a quick grocery run on the scooter in all it’s ratty fairingless glory, and upon coming back out one of a group of youths, who had been skateboarding in the parking lot, yelled out “Hey! Are mopeds fun to ride?” I forgave the slight error in two wheeled vehicle identification that separates a scooter from a moped and replied
“Hell yes they are!
... you want to try it?”
Quite taken aback, he replied “I don’t have a licence”
I replied “I don’t care, I’m not a cop”
“Well... I don’t want to break it”
I took a quick look down at the scooter an then looked back and replied “There honestly isn’t much here you could break that I haven’t already broken and fixed myself”
He asked me about a few of the controls and the took it out for a quick ride and came back with the biggest grin on his face.
I think I’m turning into a pretty awesome adult :)

Meh, skateboarders know how to take a fall. Even then, good luck tracking down a scooter with no license plate owned by a guy whose name you don't know.

I kid, of course, but you know that's exactly what some people would do.
By the way, what size is the engine? Even without pedals, anything 50cc or smaller is legally considered a moped.

Oh I'm fully aware of the disgustingly litigious nature of modern day 'murica.
It is 49.x cc, but capable of more than 30 MPH. In Oregon that makes it a scooter/motorcycle (no differentiation between the two here)

Ahh, I think here 35mph is the maximum speed for a moped. Do you also get to ride without insurance, registration, or a license? (although an ordinary learner's permit, at the very least, is required for street use)

Nope, in the great state of Oregon, all three are required. Thankfully insurance is only (I kid you not) $6 per year.
