I mean Honda can produce an utterly miserable car and then, at the next generation, that car becomes brilliant, sure it may not always deliver what people expect them, but when they do, they deliver a lot more than that.
And when you think that he wanted a job at Toyota, but they refused him.
Have a Honda 1300 Coupe, Soichiro's private pet project.

And interestingly enough, the Honda 1300 was a failure as well, practically a deathtrap.

Bro, in 1968, at the Tokyo motor show, when the car was launched, Eiji Toyoda walked over to study the new 1300, standing in front of the display for a good 10 minutes before calling over some of his engineers. "Honda's car produces 100 horsepower with a 1300cc engine. Why can't we do the same thing?" Sure, the 1300 has its problems, buuuut it was the car that gave Toyota a serious reality check, and not only that, it announced the rise of Honda on the global, car making, scene.

Oh, it was a cool car, but still a deathtrap. I love it to death.
I wish Toyota could get a wakeup call again, though.

Many cars from that era are deathtraps by today's standards, and to be honest, Honda makes enough safe cars today, to offset for cars like 1300.
If only their new cars had some of the charisma of the 1300.

I remember reading that because of its weight distribution and suspension setup, it was like first-gen corvair times 100 with high speed instability and braking. Not sure how true that was, but it definitely seemed dangerous to drive.

It were some problems with the Coupe 7, but the Coupe 9(imaged above) got some brakes and suspension upgrades and more power, 116hp to be more exact. That small power increase probably made Eiji even madder, since at the time their most powerful version of the Corona was powered by a 1.6-liter inline-4 with a just 90 hp.
