Some of the hairiest crosswind landings and takeoffs — and go arounds — I've ever seen. These were filmed last winter at Birmingham Airport in England.

Holy crap. I think I would lose my lunch if I was on any one of those.

Is it just me or are they putting up their landing gear very quickly? I assume the faster they do it in this situation, the better.

They really aren't going to be landing again immediately, since they have to get back into the pattern to take another shot. The gear makes for a lot of drag, and they don't want it down while they're climbing out. It might also make the effects of the xwind worse if it is down, but I'm not certain.

Very nice work being done here. Is Bhx known to be especially hairy to other airports?

I've seen a lot of xwind landing videos, and BHX has been featured in quite a few. There are some good ones from Düsseldorf and Madeira.
