I never got around to posting about this, but I spent my labor day weekend doing a thing most commonly associated with Subaru owners.
We spent 4 days and 3 nights camping in Sequoia National Park. It was hot, and thanks to California's severe drought, brown. At our campsite, anyway. A campsite which luckily had a beautiful river running near it, complete with a man-made dam that also doubled as a waterfall. It was wonderful.
The drought had unfortunately devastated the area in and around our camp grounds. Everyone was forbidden from lighting any campfires at all times during our stay, and what's camping without a fire?
The real reason for visiting was, fortunately, about 4,000 feet higher up from where we pitched our tents. The Giant Forest is Sequoia's main attraction, featuring miles and miles of hiking trails through beautiful giant sequoia groves. It's a lot greener and a lot colder up there. We went from high 90 degree temperatures to low 70s.
The drive up there was magnificent, though I'm saddened to say I didn't get any pictures or video (desperately need a GoPro) of the trip up. It wasn't white knuckle stuff, mind you. The roads are too narrow and there's far too much tourist traffic through a ton of very sharp hairpin turns. Let's just say that I had to resort to first gear many, many times.
Here are a couple of shots of some trees, though!
I leave you with a top tip!
Don't let your brakes cook as you drive back down as some people in my group did. They smelled awful. Engine braking is your friend.

You said you were doing Subaru things, but I see nothing about lesbians or organic marijuana farming. j/k, j/k.
Nice pictures, looks like a fun vacation.

The first time I saw those trees I started laughing uncontrollably. They were just so incredibly big and vibrant, I was in awe.

do you live in Colorado?
Nothing about smoking weed, Voting for Obama, free love, a gay marriage, slowing down for bicyclists on the freeway, obamacare, and driving 60 in an 80 zone to get the best mileage while pissing off everyone else on the roadway.

Close. California. I'm cool with all of those things except driving below the speed limit.

Upon viewing his opening sentence, I was seized by the impulse to write a similar snide remark, but it appears you've beaten me to the punch, sir!

Went up there like 6 years ago when it was snowing. A Honda Odyssey full of people. We slid at a turn for a little bit but luckily I'm still here to tell the tale.
