I am currently unemployed and not in school. I'm 19(for a whole more hour and a half) and have no clue what I want to do with my life, which I have been told is normal. I can tell you if you are interested in going to a technical school, not gonna name any names, but Wyotech, don't go. I currently drive a slowly dying Toyota 4Runner. Question away.

Kinja'd!!!

I also used to have this.

Why no Wyotech? I'm always wary of for-profit trade schools but curious about any personal experiences you may have had

I was wondering who you were and where Bamahoon went! It all makes sense now.

Would you say Toyotas are actually as reliable as people think they are?

After going there, I can tell you that their recruiting methods are that of the "We Finance" used car salesman. You do not get the education you pay for. The instructors can't instruct, they read from a book and you teach yourself. And this: http://www.indianagazette.com/news/indiana-n…

Some Toyota's are the most reliable vehicles ever built(sans mid-90's Ram 2500/3500's w/ Cummins 12V P7100 and NV4500), but most are not. At all. As in I should've gotten the Range Rover instead.

Yes, you should have.

Then again, this is coming from a guy who would kill for a Range Rover Sport Supercharged.

This wasn't a newer one, but it was a 2001 just like this:

Kinja'd!!!

It was in budget and all, but it will be unreliable they said, it will be bad on gas they said...

I'll probably be available after supper tomorrow, so I will be down with that.

Have you considered looking for a job in the public sector? Gov't work pays really well and you often don't need a formal edumacation to get started. Pay only goes up with time and layoffs are almost unheard of since the days of FDR. Check out US Customs and Border protection and similar necessary-evil gubment orgs.

I really like those, so yeah, should've gotten the Rangie.

Any SUV will be bad on gas (Unless it's a Tahoe Hybrid), so I just totally ignore that argument.

And any car is unreliable to an extent. Plus hasn't your 4-runner tried to kill you on multiple occasions?

Wish I could offer some advice, unfortunately I have no experience in that area. Pretty much always knew what I wanted to do, and that is what I am doing. All that has changed is the manufacturer I wanted to work for. Used to be either jaguar or Porsche.

As far as WyoTech is concerned, that's where I went and it has worked out well for me. You do get out of it what you put into it though, so alot of guys who made no effort and expected to have their own t.v. show after graduating were sorely disappointed. It is also a fast program so if you don't typically learn something the first time through, probably not for you. I can also do pretty much anything automotive related (not including custom upholstery) and can weld better than many many people. That wouldn't be true if not for WyoTech. I'm not saying they don't have their faults, they definitely do, but overall I think it's a great school.

I'm pretty sure they've been passed around since you've been there. They are up for sale again, due to the govt. cutting funds due to basically padding stats for employers and overcharging.

Currently for school, I don't really know and job, just something to fill the gaps till then that isn't at a restaurant. Don't want to sound spoiled about the restaurant part, but been there done that and I don't live in a really rural area so there is more than that out there.

If the commission structure/base and support are decent they can be excellent. It's too much of a manic depressive life for me though and I feel like I'm only using half of my brain. If you've got long term goals I'd try to get into school while you're still young if you can. Otherwise see where it goes.

Nothing long term and it's 1500 base w/ benefits + commission.

Definite possibility. I've had nothing to do with the place since 2006. They were overcharging then as well, but I got a bunch of grants and scholarships to make it affordable.

That's not bad. If you're comfortable shamelessly pimping your social network, friends, and family, keeping track of everyone you meet, and always following up it can build into something. What're you selling?

Not bad at all. That's more being super likeable, comfortable, having a lot of product knowledge, putting people at their ease, and thinking about it as helping them. I wasn't bad at it. At the very least it taught me how to back up and park properly. I did my best at security sales though.

If by some off chance I were to get the job, I plan on taking the not annoy the piss out of the customer style of sales. Not ignore them, but not annoy them.

It's clutch. I'm not saying not to contact and follow up, mind you. That's critical. There's a difference between customer service and pushiness though.

I'm in the private sector, an engineer, but I've seen many folks go into those public jobs and do really well. Paid overtime, great benefits — and no need for costly bachelors degree for many jobs. Try and find a program that will train you instead of requiring you to have necessary experience. Keep your nose clean and you could do okay.
