Yesterday, we had a leak near the washing machine. We called Mr. Rooter. (Colorado Oppos: I highly recommend these guys after this), they said that our secondary kitchen drainage line was kaput. (not a direct quote) Today, I woke up to the sound of jackhammers just below my bed (the Basement). By the end of the day, We had a new drainage line. We also got the jacuzzi tub fixed, the Plumber had to cut a hole in the basement ceiling to get to the tub drain. Tomorrow everything will be put back together after an inspector comes by. Oh and Rosh Hashanah (the jewish new year) is a week from today, we are having 17 people over... fun times.

Here's the damage:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I did fix the jacuzzi tub by myself, and I think after this whole ordeal with me helping out the plumbers, I think my mom will take me seriously when I say I can fix something myself and save her money by not calling "the guy". My handiwork:

Well done sir. I enjoy home DIY stuff, but for some reason my success rate with plumbing projects is lower than with other types. Which of course also makes it less satisfying, unfortunately.

So if you're good with that stuff, be proud. :-)

There was actually nothing wrong with the tub, the jets just had 20 years of sediment in them. It just needed to be ran with some soap. My mom ran them 5 years after not using it, crap came shooting out and she said "I have to call the guy, it'll be expensive, so we just wont use the tub" and never tried to fix it herself. I'm trying to change that mentality in this household.

Well, good for you. I can usually figure home stuff out, and it's worth a try, even if the end result is to "call the guy."

I actually almost posted an "I've mended something!" earlier today after a minor plumbing victory of my own.

Good for you trying to fix it yourself first, thats the right way to think about it. What did you end up doing?

PS- I have never seen that tub run in my lifetime, it was an invigorating experience to see it run for the first time after I fixed it

Nothing very exciting, just fixed a dripping bathroom faucet, which ended up needing replacement parts on both hot and cold, and while I was at it I replaced the shut-off valves under the sink, because they were ancient and useless...and it all went back together and so far, no leaks! :-)

Must be pretty gratifying to see the tub working after all that time!
