OK, so I have been to a few races with my DSLR but never with a 'Pro' lens. I rented a 70-200 2.8 and am worried they might say something. What is Oppo's general luck with 'pro' equipment and track policies. I shoot with a D7100 with a battery pack, so its not a small setup.
I am planning on putting the lens in my backpack with the panchos and whatnot, putting the baby 50 prime on the camera separately and just flashing them the contents of the backpack as I have done before. (they have never dug through my stuff)
So, What you say OPPO?

I would assume it would be fine. There will be lots of cameras going through, but if you are still worried, I would go through with the bigger lens on so you can start firing them off as soon as you get through the gates. That's what I do when I go to Laguna Seca as you have to walk down into the paddock and usually there's already stuff on the track that I can get as I walk in with my 55-200 that I cant with my 18-55. On a side not, there is security at COTA?

I've heard of folks encountering problems with zoom lenses at NBA games (Staples center) but never at a race track before. I guess the pro photographer's don't want any competition, but is it the same at a race event? I've never had a second thought about bringing my 70-200 zoom at the Long Beach Gran Prix or the LeMans Historic races in France, but then I haven't really thought about it.

That's probably not going to be a problem. I've seen all kinds of camera/lens combo at the trackside at Long Beach GP.

I think the general rule used to be either 10" or 15" in the stands, but since there aren't really stands for this one, I don't think they'll care.
SQUEE NIGHT RACING! I'm apparently pretty under-camera'd for it, but SQUEE.
