Years ago when I lived in the tropical paradise of Ghana, we used to drink a drink called Akpeteshie. It's a local Ghanaian moonshine that is made with either sugar cane (sometimes) or more usually palm wine.
It's a pretty hard liquor. Since it's made on the down low it's hard to know it's alcohol per volume content but the lower limit is reckoned to be about 30%. The upper limit...well who knows?
The liquor can be notoriously strong.
I was able to bring a few bottles back to Canada in 2008, but of course the well has long run dry. My friends called it "Jungle Juice". They didn't like it too much, but I really liked it.
What is the best/worst moonshine you've ever had?

Cherry shine, made in the hills of Virginia by Norfolk-Southern railway workers.

Whoops! Best. It was very smooth. Highly alcoholic.

Good old Everclear. Not allowed here in Ontario but we bring it from Alberta sometimes.

Reminds me of
Three Sheets
. Zane once had some African moonshine brewed with... bees. Cracked me up.
Closest I've ever had is homebrew, and they've always sucked.
Been wanting to make my own cider (or at least create it with the help of a few gallons apple juice.)

I have some cask-aged shine from home (Tennessee) that I'd put up against most commercial bourbons, but the best I ever had was an apple brandy from an old farmer in Yadkin County, North Carolina.

Best I ever had is "Watauga County Spring Water" that we get from a family in Deep Gap, NC that has been 'shinin in the same spot for almost 200 years. The stuff is of legend. Even the sheriff deputies sweat by its quality.
Also have a 20 year old half quart left of "Fightin Likker" made by Popcorn himself. Damn good.

The Tennessee 'shine is from Scott County, and it also came with a local law enforcement thumbs up. :) Best way to tell you're not getting something out of a radiator if you don't know the maker personally.
