"Ron Calls on his years of experience....and freezes at the controls" (internerdstuff)

Up front i need to say i'm not considering this!!! I'm just intrigued by the mental challenge.
Obviously more or better horsepower would be relatively simple. I'm guessing a LOT of effort would be needed to change the steering feel.Any suggestions? Is this even a thing that's ever been tried??
Ditto (or even impossible) for gearchange feel!
Making the suspension feel better should be simple.Anything else?
Also,a theme picture for the thread-

Hmm... wonder if a 3S-GTE will fit under the hood of a Camry...

Believe it or not, they aren't really slow. In fact, a new Camry V6 will do 0-60 in the low to mid 5 second range. It's the driving dynamics and styling that makes them so boring. So stiffer suspension and such.

The size of the gap between the pedal and the metal is inversely proportional to the fun of the car.

Rotate the engine 90 degrees + LSD + Manuel + Heavy duty suspension = 5 series killer.
Not.

my brother has a 2013 V6 and it is pretty damn rad. Drives well but a manual like back in the day would be rad.
I can fall asleep and have fun in any car trust me. I'd take a new Camry over my jalopy German fleet all day

The same thing you do to make any shitty car better. Tires.

What I'd do is this. Say it's a 2009 Camry SE with a 4 cylinder engine, just for the purpose of having an average model to use
I'd do the following:
First, I'd go and get a set of 255/50/R18 profile tires, that actually grip. I'd use an 18" BBS wheel for them.
Behind this, I'd put 11.4" 4-piston cross-drilled rotors and pads, for performance.
Suspension would be completely overhauled as well. 4-corner independent FTW! lower springs, stiffer shocks and some meaty sway bars. All new high-quality bushings as well. Also, get a nice high-performance LSD for the front. finish it off by tack welding EVERYTHING for rigidity.
Now, for the power! Bore the 2.4 out to a 2.6, and stick a low pressure turbo to it. give the turbo about 12-14psi, with an overboost up to 18psi. FMIC intercooler as well. Exhaust? 3" catback, with a high flow cat. The engine will aslo get a more aggressive cam, high-flow injectors, complete ECU reprograming, and some race pistons.
Transmission. Rip the auto out. instead of the auto, put in a long-geared 5-speed manual gearbox. this way the car will be fun to drive all the time!
Numbers that I predict: 250hp, 260ft-lbs. 0-60 in 5.3 Seconds. top speed of about 145mph. max lateral G of 1.03. 60-0 in 108 feet.

Know nothing about camrys but probably the usual exhaust, intake, ecu reflash, poly bushings, better tires, 5mt swap, short throw if already 5mt, sway bars, chassis braces in the front, better brake lines and brake fluid, removal of rear seats....

I'd probably go 3SGTE head onto a 5SFE bottom end for the bigger displacement... but to that end I'd probably turbo the 1MZ or 3VZ instead.

coilovers and some light weight rims will go a long way. The V6 has plenty of power.

RWD conversion. LS7 swap, coilovers and 305 section Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires all around.

Exactly, that's more than enough power. Even the 4 cylinder has plenty for an involving car. Suspension, steering and transmission are the most important things that'll need adjustment. You might want to do something with engine noise and vehicle weight as well.

Bonus points if the LS goes in the back seat area.

A 2013 Camry V6 would blow the pants off my 2004 Taurus in any competition you put them in. Except maybe for most crumbs in the carpet competitions.

Sell it and buy a Miata.
Or alternatively, for the more adventurous:
1. Buy donor Miata
2. Remove all body panels from both vehicles
3. Cut down Camry panels to an appropriate size and fit to Miata
4. Enjoy driving your Miata with a Camry body.

heck yeah. It handles waaay better than my clumsy Quattro wagon and the W210 and would completely destroy them in a straight line. Since my brother's wife drives it mostly, I would also loose the crumb, french fry, Goldfish, and mummified pieces of chicken stuck between the seats competition.
As a dude that has fallen asleep in a modified M3, I can assure you that these cars are not as bad as EVERYONE says. I wish I could have a new car instead of these disposable $1500 - $4000 ish old things but I wont be in a financial position ever to even be able to afford a Camry, and that's pretty fucking sad lol :]

V6. Stick. Done.
Calming the rolly polly suspension would be nice, they do make stiffer struts and lowering springs for my car, but its fine enough the way it is.
