Kinja'd!!!

So yesterday night I reset my WiFi via the only computer that's connected via cable to the router. After saving a setting on the router I noticed that I can't browse websites or even access the router via cable.

My Skype, Steam, Malwarebytes work fully, so I'm suspecting it's a firewall issue, which is weird because I can't get on the firewall until recently.

Have tried netsh reset, cmd.exe pings successfully, but to no avail. What do?

Update 1: IE and Chrome work, Firefox (my default) still shows the "loading" circle for any pages.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Many times. It's plugged in too!

Did you factory reset the router? Do you have a static IP on your PC? What brand is the router?

Kinja'd!!!0

What brand router, and where did you get it from? What exactly are you pinging? Try a Traceroute.

What are your DNS settings? (a DNS problem would explain why you can use Skype and ping an IP, but not resolve a domain name to access the internet).

No. just a setting save.

It doesn't change.

Cisco Linksys

Cisco Linksys, Best Buy. I didn't actually reset, just saved an option and then I couldn't access webpages via browser.

How would I check the DNS settings? ipconfig /all?

Your best bet is to probably stick a paper clip into the "reset" hole for 30 seconds which will blow away the configuration. After that reprogram it from scratch and update to latest firmware. If you can't access the router via web interface to change any of the settings that's really your only option.

Kinja'd!!!0

I can access the router on my WiFi devices, so I don't think I need to hardware reset.

DNS can be set through network settings (TC/IP settings, right click a connection and hit "properties" in the network manager) to change them, or you can view them through ipconfig/all.

You need to be more specific than just "linksys" (also, really hope you didn't pay more than $30, Cisco has some amazing online deals if you buy direct from manufacturer).

But you should be able to log in to the router via a web browser through 192.168.1.1. There you can set DHCP settings, disable/enable firewall, etc.

Also, check your Windows Firewall settings. See if it got turned on (or the exceptions were changed) in response to your router. Sometimes they can be finicky. Try disabling windows firewall altogether, and then connect.

start with an ipconfig /reset and ipconfig /renew. If that doesn't work try resetting the router to defaults by holding in it's reset pin w paperclip.

What setting did you change???

Kinja'd!!! GhostZ > RMudkips

Kinja'd!!!0

Also, a hardware/factory reset on the router is still your best option. It might be a bit more hassle because you'll have to put all your other settings back to where they were, but it would solve your problem pretty easily.

Kinja'd!!!0

What setting did you save?

If you ping a site, and then use that IP to try and browse will it load the web page?

Are your web pages static or dynamic?

Reboot the PC...?

Try a different browser?

Kinja'd!!! RMudkips > GhostZ

Kinja'd!!!0

I can still access 192.168.1.1 on another device, just not on a browser on a specific computer.

It's a WRT-160NV3 from about '08 or '09, the space saucers.

What do I set for DHCP if it's just one device with issues?

Ran some malware scans and restarting, even though that may not do any good.

Just went to "Wireless", went to the WiFi page, and just clicked "save settings".

Tried, won't do that.

???

Have many times.

Tried Chrome, doesn't work as well. IE7 (can access the Windows Update page) may, but I'm not risking it.

you should still be able to use a wired connection then. Try turning off your wireless card when you do it. By default Windows will give wifi adapter precedence over wired adapter.

Sorry, I meant are your IPs static or dynamic.

The fact that everything else works... Has to be either something with the connection, a port or a client setting.

Have you tried moving the wire from the current port to another?

would you be able to dump from the following two commands:

ipconfig /all

wmic process get name, executablePath

4 looks OK...

Try swapping the cables around the process dump.

I have actually seen a plague of malware recently (IT work, yay!) where "search engines" and the like have blocked certain types of TCP/IP traffic but left many others alone. It would be a good bet to rule out that now.

I assume the Hamatchi connection is the one you can't get access with? You're missing a default gateway on your computer's TCP/IP settings. Go to the local area connection in the network manager / network connections page, right click, go to properties, and enter in the default gateway manually as 192.168.1.1.

On the router, move the hard-line from whereever it is plugged in now to another port. you likely have 3 available.

Also, you have a lot of "crude" IMO, but nothing looks wrong there, SgtPanda ;)
