"Vimto" (smudgey)

I was randomly browsing Autotrader for cars made in the year I was born and came across this.
For some reason, I find it very attractive. Unfortunately, this one has over 275,000 miles.

They're good cruisers. That one has failed air suspension, which over time leads to bent strut towers (been there, done that).

Then you will find the Olds 88 LSS even more attractive. Supercharged 3800 SII, only 240 horse but gobs of torque.
Going for dirt cheap these days, usually in pretty good condition.

Honestly, it's front wheel drive old boat. I'd rather have the none-supercharged for simplicity's sake.

I had a '95 Royale in college. Roomy, great mileage, great in the winter with studded tires, decent power...just handled terribly. My brother and I put 70k on it in a couple years all over the Pacific Northwet, then it met an untimely demise due to a runaway trailer. Still miss it!

GM did make some surprisingly attractive bodies in the '90s. Interiors, driving dynamics, and overall build quality were generally crap, but they did do a number of good looking cars. Especially the Olds Aurora.

I find them quite handsome too. I like that chiseled line running fore to aft, and the way it makes the rear deck flow into the tops of the doors. I also like the all-glass treatment on the A pillars that leaves the roof "floating".
I think they look particularly good in black or silver.

If there's one thing America knows how to do right it's make a car that can turn heads.

Delicious. However, I wonder if the aspect ratio on the picture of they silver one you posted has been messed up, the picture kinda looks compressed making the car look short. However, the tasteful mods this one has only adds to its appeal.
I prefer the grille of the pre-facelift though.

I was thinking the same thing.

I don't like these, not one bit.
Very few Oldsmobile guys appreciate the badge-engineering fwd crap of the 90s. If you want an 88, get a real 88 and not some corporate GM shit.
The W41 with the quad four and the Alero are the last cars engineered in house by Olds.

I apologize for boiling your blood, haha. I was specifically searching for model year 1995 so that's why this was the Oldsmobile that came up. That "real 88" looks delicious though.

I owned on of these, a short ram intake really woke it up!

Easy to work on? Any common issues?

All i ever replaced was a swaybar link, im after forgetting how long i owned the car but it only left me stranded once when the accesory belt came off somehow and put a hole in the rad, i patched it with bondo and sold it, the car was driven for a few months after that.
Its got the 3800 so they have good power and are easy to work on.Plus theres lots of these barges out there so plenty of engines.I recommend a short ram, this one is off a civic or accord.
