This picture shows a very happy Theodore von Kármán. Theodore von Kármán is one of the most important aerodynamicists of the past century, right up with Ludwig Prandtl and Richard Whitcomb. Aerodynamicists will be happy to only have to deal with an easily-defined canopy, not a helmet flopping around.

this is the Indy roadster I just walked by at IND airport. Heading over to IMS Productions now to see a friend. I'll ask him.
Theodore seems to be having a good day.

indycar isn't looking at canapoies right now. Perhaps Dallara is independently, but it isn't something the series is looking at.

I know you checked with someone on the inside, but there was a big article on Racer about that today, and they did talk to Derrick Walker about it. I think the first step they're taking is perhaps a taller windscreen, maybe for the 2017/18 car...whenever the year is for the DW12 to be replaced.

Hmmm, interesting. Could be something that is being batted around by a high end committee. I have pretty good faith in who I spoke with. I will be sure to look at the article though.

Not posting that to be snarky or a smartass, just figured it'd be easier to bring the article to you.

No worries. I appreciate it. Cool read. Sounds like that if it is being discussed that it is at very high, theoretical levels and not quite at implementation.
I wonder of they would need to consider AC on fully closed cars like sports cars do. NHRA cans manage as they are only in the car for a minute. NASCAR has open windows to help a little.

That was honestly one of the first thoughts I had. I think they'd have to take into consideration the addition of cool suits, helmet blowers, etc.
