It's my mom's, after her telling me repeatedly that I wasn't allowed to drive her car I took the keys and went for a "joy ride"
The only reason I wanted to drive it was to see what it's like to play with the paddle shifters. Driving with paddle shifters was... uneventful. I mean it shifted when I told it to and everything but it was so boring. There was no joy, no love, no anything really. I was going to do an Oppositelock Review but honestly the car would just score a solid "Meh/100". The color is awful, the interior isn't great, it's slow and not in a 'slow car fast' but a 'holy shit this is fuckin' slow' kind of way. The only redeeming quality is the sound that that little boxer engine makes at 4,000 RPM, it's pretty glorious.

I like to think that because now I'm an "adult" and don't live with my parents I don't have to listen to what they say anymore, I'm pretty much a badass.

Paddle shifters are nice on some cars, Camry a horrid candidate because of the crappy gear ratios. Fully automatic w/o Traction control off is faster than paddles w/o Traction control.

Yet, you still had to preface this by saying your mom repeatedly told you not to drive her car, but you went ahead and stole it anyway. #YOLO
Also, I happen to love orange cars. I don't care how shitty a car is, orange is better than beige or white or silver.

If you don't brag about being a badass it doesn't really count..
And I only partially agree with that statement, I don't mind silver on certain cars, see below, and I drive a white FiST so obviously I like white a tiny bit.

I'm sure a sporty car with the paddles is much better. The XV isn't meant to be sporty whatsoever and that's where I was disappointed.

German cars are almost always silver. Silver BMWs and Mercedes blend in like Corollas.

I live in Germany and I can confirm that yes, most cars are silver, black, gray, or white but it's not a bad thing!

That's boring though (it's the same in the US). What would a Germans reaction be to this?
Brashness is much more fun than restraint.

I'm pretty sure a string of incomprehensible German curses would ensue for the entire time that he could see this in the rearview of his silver Audi A4, FWD with the 2.0 and DSG of course (it's more efficient).

The Charger Hellcat is a 200 MPH car and it's shown in Fuck You Red. But even the Porsche 918, Germany's biggest fastest and post expensive car, is always shown in silver. The Fiesta ST was shown in Molten Orange, and you bought a white one. Do Germans really have no sense of humor?

Its a crossover, its not really meant to be sporty. That being said, it has roughly the equivalent performance as the other vehicles in it's segment. But, it probably gets superior gas mileage.
No, the vehicle isn't a screamer, but it isn't meant to be either. It is a good vehicle for what it is meant for. Trying to put it into a category it doesn't belong in will only lead to disappointment.

I'm actually an American, I am just living in Germany for work right now. But the Germans have fun every once in awhile!

I know it's not the worst car out there but coming from the FiST into that was a huge change. The ride quality is better in the XV but I guess I just had different expectations from a Subaru. Maybe someday I'll be able to appreciate a crossover but for now I'm going to stick with the stick and keep sippin' on that haterade (or whatever the kids say nowadays)

Sounds about correct. A friend bought one, just like you described. Utterly unremarkable. A short time later, I bought a new car and his decision helped me out with getting something more exciting.

I test drove one when helping my mom look for a car and oh my gosh it was painfully slow. One road for the test drive was literally a 3/4 mile long incline that it just wheezed up.
Needless to say the Crosstrek was not picked.

Wait, don't these things have CVTs? How do the paddle shifters work?
