That oh so messy job I got sucked into yesterday...
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Finally got the too-small extractor out today, had to grab a 1/4 inch socket in my tap holder so the female end was towards the extractor that was stuck in the hole (pictured above). The too-small extractor had screwed itself in through the leftover threads of the spark plug and we couldn't pull it out, had to unscrew it out. What a beeotch of a job. The right exctractor (a #5) was too big for my tap handle and we couldn't find anything else that could turn it that was also short enough to fit between the hole and the fans, so off to Home Depot to find a new tap holder. Found one just a little wider and a little shorter than my old one, so it would hold the #5 extractor and just cleared the fans. For good measure threw the mapp/oxy torch on it for a few minutes and it FINALLY came out!
Change your spark plugs BEFORE your car gets to 10 years old people!!!!!
The car was a bargain, but the guy selling it was all "Oh it's mechanically in great shape, needs nothing!" We aren't that stupid, there's good reason it was a bargain. Now, after doing all 4 brakes, plugs, wires, all fluids and the LIM gaskets (lower intake manifold, you other GM 3800 people know what I'm talking about), the out of pocket cost is about what it should have been in the first place if it had been actually well maintained.
