Just picked up my 2014 Elantra which was in the shop for 3 weeks. They replaced the transmission with a new one. The car still has the same issue while backing up, and it feels insanely sluggish to drive. I am really fed up with this car.

1. Sell Hoondai.
2. Sell Volvo.
3. Buy something else.

One of my coworkers seems to have similar issues. She hasn't really had a resolution either though they claim it isn't in limp mode.

1. I think I need to try to get a manufacture buyback on the Hyundai as it has already been in the shop 3 times for this issue.
2. My mom is trying to work a lease deal to replace the XC60 with an XC90.
3. If my shitbox gets bought back, I think I am going to look at the Forester or Crosstrek.

Is it an Elantra?

Yiz, all of this sounds good.
I thought you had a beater-esque Volvo also?

Yes. Hers is back to the shop for the second time. She's driving her Mom and Dad's Roadmaster, which I just told her she should do regularly.

i really like the Crosstrek, we almost bought an outback (I personally don't like the styling of the forester)

They did not give her a loaner?

I do have my beater Volvo, and at the present moment, its the most reliable thing we have. I may try to trade my beater on craigslist for something Manual.

Get the buyback. Most anything would be better than this mess.

Is it a 2014?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 17:30 |

Not for the second time. They claimed that it was the equivalent of "elective" service because it didn't throw any codes.

I'm really hoping to get a buyback, as I can not take the $4,000 trade in depreciation hit after only 6 months and 5,000 miles.

Yes. 2014 Elantra too.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 17:31 |

Yeah, Go ahead and do that! Manual would probably be necessary.

What is the issue that hers is giving her? Mine involves the entire car shaking and grinding while backing uphill. Also I wonder what her build date was, maybe both of our cars came from the same batch.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 17:33 |

She has that same problem and it's not even seriously uphill, just in the school parking lot. I'll ask her next week what the build date was.

Could you also find out the: Color, Trim Level, and Factory (If made in Alabama, the vin will start with a 5, if made in Korea it will start with a K)

I'll hit her with an email. If she doesn't respond I'll ask her during planning time Monday.

I find it shocking honestly. My girlfriends family has 4 Hyundais that are problem free, granted none are brand new.

We just sent one we bought to the Hyundai dealer cause it would slip and slam into third gear....It was an elantra too. what was your problem with it?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 17:48 |
|
Thanks so much. I'm thinking that this could be a defect among multiple cars. It must not be the transmission, as the $5,000 that hyundai just spent on a new transmission only seemed to make the problem worse.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 17:49 |

It grinds and shakes while backing up a mild incline. I also had occasional transmission slippage, and mine slammed into third gear.

also, is yours a 2014 too?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 18:01 |

13 I think. It was my dealerships. Not my personal car.
Regardless with 40k on it, its insane that it already needed a trans.
Hyundai Warranty replaced it. Waiting to get it back and do all the other work it needed.

Go for the buy back. There is no reason a car that new should have these issues. Sounds like a sour ol' lemon to me.

I'm really hoping for one. I need a reliable car to get me through my final year of high school, college, and beyond.

Damn dude I drove a '99 Pontiac Grand Am in high school and it didn't give me any problems like this. That sucks.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 21:38 |

It does suck. I just have insanely bad luck with cars.
![]() 09/14/2014 at 20:47 |

That completely sucks. That they actually gave you back the car after all that time with the same issue is maddening.
![]() 09/14/2014 at 21:28 |
|
Yep. It is pretty maddening, especially considering that they replaced the transmission. The car actually has the same issue, but worse since the attempted repairs.

Hey, did you by chance hear back from her?
![]() 09/15/2014 at 20:44 |

Not yet. Will check it out myself tomorrow.

Seems to be made in Alabama. Build in December 2013. It's a sedan.
![]() 09/16/2014 at 19:44 |

same factory as mine. My build date is January 2nd. Could you check and see what day in December?
![]() 09/16/2014 at 19:46 |

2nd also. She said they said it was one of the first batch made if that's any help. She bought in Texas before she moved up here to teach.
![]() 09/16/2014 at 19:49 |

a month before mine. I wonder if there is a defective batch of parts for cars made in that month time period.
![]() 09/16/2014 at 19:50 |
|
It's possible. I just wish I had a clue what it was that's messing you both up so badly/oddly. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
![]() 09/16/2014 at 19:50 |

I'm taking mine back in tomorrow, for round 5 of hyundai trying to diagnose the problem.

I wish I knew too. Thanks so much for the info. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one affected by this defect.
![]() 09/16/2014 at 19:59 |

Thank you too. I think it cheered her up also because she's basically being forced to move again to a different job for the sake of her kid. Was a nice lady. Wanted to help my Grandpa with some agribusiness issues and it wasn't even to her benefit.

Sounds like a nice lady. It's a shame she also bought a lemon too.
