You have a very flawed definition of a sports car. How about M4, C63 AMG, RS5, CTS-V, RC F, M6, Toyobaru, Nissan GTR, Fezza F12? All of them are two doors if that is what you are going for.

You can argue that the FRS isn't a sports car but you'd be a fool to do so.

The reason for the backseats is for cheaper insurance in some countries and the mere fact that the rear seats can go down to hold a set of wheels and appropriate tools.

But i'm not much a man of names. I'll just go do laps around these sports cars in my RS7, thanks.

But they both weigh over 3200 lbs, and that is only for base models which have in case of the Bimmer would be a 150hp 2.slow 4 banger and a 2.1 Diesel in the Merc. If you get a full fat Engine we are looking at 3600lbs which is GT territory.

By doing exactly that, little better weight distribution, no back seat and only two doors. It's not a practical car. It makes no sense to choose it over a 3, but it just has that extra sporty appeal, it exists for fun and nothing else.

Fair enough, and I agree that sports cars should be all about fun, but a Z4 doesn't have the shag bonus of a 3-Series wagon, so in the end it is potentially not as much fun as one of those and its folding metal roof will break down at some point which is not much fun at all except if you are a BMW mechanic.
