Carscoops made a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of an S550-based Lincoln (okay, they don't call it an MKR, but hey) a couple of days ago. The crease/fin along the side and the dip in the central portion of the lower grille look kind of weird IMO, but I'd rock it.

It looks like the sort of car a video game would have in order to avoid licencing the Mustang.

I haven't really been a big fan of Lincoln's recent styling but this bad boy I could totally get behind.

I loved the Mark VII LSC. It woudl be good to see it's successor, even if the platform switched from T-bird to Mustang.

Why would anyone buy this though? If they want an expensive car based on the mustang, the Shelby is already available. At best they'd be cannibalizing their own sales. At worst it would flop hard.

If Lincoln does this, they need to use it as a chance to bring back the personal luxury coupe. Make it keep up with the Mustang in a straight line, but the car shouldn't be about sportiness and handling. It should be a grand tourer capable of gobbling up highway miles in serene comfort. And for Christ's sake, it had better have a number after the "MK" or so help me god.

I have been pleading for Lincoln to do some sort of flagship coupe for years now...and back before the Carpocalypse I figured that the Aussie Falcon G platform would be a great global platform. Screw the ancient Volvo chassis underneath the MKS, Taurus, Fusion, etc. The standard Falcon would have made a fine Taurus as a replacement for the Fusion (and the companion Everest SUV would have made a much stronger Explorer, IMO), likewise the Falcon would have made a much better MKZ (I prefer Zephyr here). Stretch that platform, and you can rock both a new Crown Vic out of the deal AND you could have replaced the MKS with a proper Continental. Finally, build a Cou-pay on the platform and you create the magical Mark IX. In this case, I'd totally rock this MKR. To fit with Lincoln's preference for EcoBoost, the standard motor would be the 2.3L EcoBoost, and instead of the Coyote 5.0L, drop the twin turbo 3.5L EcoBoost in as the top motor. You're not likely to see an M/AMG/RS/V/F competitor out of this, but those two motors would match up very nicely to the competitive set.

I'd rather have the 2.0T slot in below the 2.3T as the standard motor - I figure that'd make for a proper volume model and 528i rival.

I know where you're coming from, but I don't like the idea of it. Making cheaper versions just gives pretentious douches who are biased against American cars another excuse to bag on otherwise completely intangible flaws.

Kinja'd!!!1

I agree with you on the engine choices. The 2.3 and 3.5 Ecos would be solid choices and cover the performance and audience well.

But there absolutely has to be a flagship model sporting the GT350's crossplane or a turbocharged Coyote (THERE, I SAID IT). You know this in your heart to be true.
Why? Because racecar, damnit.

Kinja'd!!!2

Yeah, I can see that, but the 2.0 in the ATS/CTS puts out a rated 272hp, and while the 2.0 in the BMW 3/4/5 is rated officially at 240hp, the performance it puts out (and full disclosure, I have an F30 328i and I freaking love the power!) is speculated at being somewhat underrated. I think the 2.3 at a currently rated 285 (in the MKC) is a good starting point. Plus, you don't want such a huge gap between the 4cyl and the 6 cyl. Although I did forget the new 2.7L twin turbo EcoBoost V6. I believe Ford is rating it in the 320 hp neighborhood, which would actually be a proper 435i/S5/RC350 competitor. Still, so much potential. I hope Ford and Lincoln can figure out how to capitalize on it.

I like where your head's at (believe me...I do!), because I've been wanting Lincoln and Ford to step up their game for years. If they actually follow through on this and make it a fleet-wide effort, maybe a performance brand from Lincoln could happen. At this point, let's get them selling a good lineup and take it from there. FWIW, here's the blog posts I did on the subject back in 2008.

I think it's the ridges over the rear wheels that do it. they need to reshape those a bit.

the b/c pillar and quarter window/ wheel arch area also invoke a little of the last model dodge charger. with a little work these could be blended in and look good

other than that, go for it !!!

I love the concept in theory - big fan of the Mark VII LSC - but that pic is awfully busy... Clean up the lines and get back to me. And folks, this is Lincoln - 3.5 turbo base with the 5.0 for the LSC, (skip the 4cyl, thank you.)

I agree, but then, most concept renders are gonna beat most actual production cars, with all the design language dilution that tends to happen on the way to market.

true, but if it were to eliminate the mentioned "crease/fin along the side and the dip in the central portion of the lower grille" may actually improve it. I think though, as a platform (new mustang) something could be put out that could compete quite well in the luxury coupe market without competing internally against the mustang (like the XLR did with the vette). Lincoln needs a proper flagship/halo car to re-energize the brand, even with the expected dilution, this is a pretty good start.
