I've been asked to name some PC racing video games for a 6 year-old. Sooo, any ideas?
Only thing I can think of is Cars 2 the movie game...

You can't go wrong with any of the arcadey titles. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 was my first racing game at about 7 or 8.

Something like this:

I was thinking of games but all I can come up with is console games.

Honestly would be better off with a game boy and Mario kart

Burnout, Dirt, Need For Speed, GRID. I think those are the usual suspects for the my first racing sim package. Plus they have been out for a while so you could probably buy them all for $5 and some pocket lint.

Go to Office Max or Office Depot. They usually have some of the older NFS games (Underground 1 and 2 and Hot Pursuit come to mind). They usually have them for 5 or 10 bucks.

Go to gog.com and check out the racing or simulation categories. Young kids don't care about the newest and the best.

Nfs is your best bet. My first game was nfs hot pursuit 2 and when I was 7 I got most wanted, they weren't too difficult (compared to gran turismo 3 & 4 which I also had) and I had a lot of fun.

I've been asked by a relative to coach his soon-to-be-7 year old kid on the basics before we let him try karting for the first time. I'm thinking about using the racing karts in Gran Turismo 6 (highly de-tuned of course) and a racing wheel in order to explain fundamental concepts like the racing line.

I might be stretching it, but if it works I will report back. Hopefully, when that kid is around ten he'll be able to drift a Miata.

Edit: My bad, I didn't notice that the question said PC games.

Don't spoil him, make the little bastard grow up like we did. Make him earn his stripes.

1. Road and Track presents: The Need for Speed Special Edition.

2. Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit.

3. Need for Speed: High Stakes.

4. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2

5. THEN he gets racing games made in the past 5 years.

He doesn't get a new one on the list until he shows he kicks ass at the previous one.

There's a few other ones I would recommend from my childhood, but most of them require downloading ROMs because they were on either 3.5" or 5.25" floppies, and they used code wheels for anti-piracy.

These games are: Revell/Monogram & Expert Software's Backroad Racers, Spectrum Holobyte's Stunt Driver, Papyrus Software's Indianapolis 500: The Simulation, OutRun (original), Test Drive II: The Duel, DSI's The Cycles: International Grand Prix Racing, and Spectrum Holobyte's Vette!
