My grandparents had a truck on their porch this evening.

My grandparents' driveway sits directly across from the T intersection of a two lane road and a one lane side road. Often, people don't pay attention and pull out onto the two lane and get hit by cars coming up the hill. The house is also at the top of a big hill. I was raised there and it seemed there was a wreck at least once or twice a year. Tonight, though, the house got involved. Which is a first.

The driver of the Ranger hit the Liberty when the driver of the Liberty didn't look and pulled out in front of the Ranger. The Ranger driver was rendered unconscious and didn't apply his brakes at all after the accident. Hence why he was stopped by my grandparents' porch.

My grandma's neighbor took the pics with her iPhone 4. So don't mind their awful quality.

Ranger driver is still at the hospital. :( Liberty driver was a 16-year-old girl that just got her license.

My grandma is sad that her flowers got smashed.

Remind me again why teenage girls have lower insurance rates than teenage boys??? (Read: I am a teenage boy who is totally confused by insurance costs)

Too bad about your grandma's flowers, but I'm so glad that your grandparents are okay.

I just don't understand... I have been driving for 3.5 years and around 60k miles with no accidents or tickets (or pull overs)... yet I am always reading about teenage girls getting in accidents due to them not paying attention!!! /rant over

from the CDC

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The risk of motor vehicle crashes is higher among 16- to 19-year-olds than among any other age group. In fact, per mile driven, teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are three times more likely than drivers aged 20 and older to be in a fatal crash.

Among teen drivers, those at especially high risk for motor vehicle crashes are:

Males: In 2010, the motor vehicle death rate for male drivers and passengers ages 16 to 19 was almost two times that of their female counterparts .

Teens driving with teen passengers: The presence of teen passengers increases the crash risk of unsupervised teen drivers. This risk increases with the number of teen passengers.4

Newly licensed teens: Crash risk is particularly high during the first months of licensure.5,6

WHAT?! None of my friends (male) have been in any accidents! But like 5 of my friends (friends who are female) have been in at-fault accidents with totaled cars!

You and your friends are a drop in the ocean compared to the rest of the data.

I'm 27 and haven't had any at fault accidents either, but I don't blame the insurance companies for the higher premiums I had to pay when I was younger.. they're just playing the odds like every other insurance company.

Just try and find the one that gets you the best deal.

My issue is that my parents don't want to switch insurance... they also want one of those stupid OBDII thingys that monitors your driving...

I loved that last line.

I hope the Ranger guy gets better. From the look of the impact, as long as he didn't have any extenuating medical conditions, he'll probably be fine.

I also hope your grandma gets new flowers soon.

Are you paying the insurance premium? if yes, then you can always shop around and argue to them it'll save money. If not then I wouldn't worry.

Admitting that I had my cars registered in my Dad's name until I was 25 with the insurance policy showing I was a 50% driver, it saved me between $1500-1000 per year.

Might be time to think about adding some decorative boulders around the edge of the lawn.

You can look for cheaper insurance anyway, if they don't take it then you can at least say you tried.

Yes, it is. It is super old, too. Been around since before I was born. My grandparents actually weren't home at the time. They had taken my grandpa's Tacoma and went to drop some things off at a consignment sale. Which in itself is lucky. Because the Ranger drove right through the spot where the Tacoma parks.

My dad had an 88 2.9L growing up. Midnight blue single cab.

Nothing of value was lost in the Liberty.
