What's up Oppos,
I posted the other day asking for advice on 2011+ WRX reliability. Had some great answers that I very much appreciated. I'm posting again to ask for further help in deciding what my next car should be.
I'm looking to get out of my Ford Focus ST. In my next car, I'm looking for something that is fun to drive and reliable. Fuel economy is somewhat of a concern, but as long as the car gets mid-20s highway MPG it should be fine. Car needs to have a backseat to haul my girlfriend + dog around occasionally. I'd like to keep the purchase right around $25-$26,000. Used is okay as long as the miles are relatively low (30,000>).
I will be driving roughly 20,000 miles a year, and I'm hoping to have the car for about 4 years. maybe 5. I live in the Midwest and drive in areas that see quite a lot of snow and few plows, so any car is going to be getting winter tires. Here is the list of cars I'm currently considering:
1. 2011+ Subaru WRX (possibly the new WRX as well...maybe)
2. BRZ/FR-S
3. Mazdaspeed3
4. ....Honda Fit + Miata weekend/track car.
5. Honda Accord Coupe V6 6MT
Is there anything out there that I'm missing? Really don't want to get into another Ford product, so Fiesta or Mustang are out.
Any help is very much appreciated, folks. Thanks!

1. buy a CPO audi a5
2. have fun
3. sell before the warranty runs out (self destruction)
4. cry over how much the car depreciated

It's not exactly my cup of tea, but the GTI falls within this range, too.

I'm definitely sitting between the FR-S and the MS3 with a gaping maw. Dog up front, girlfriend in the back; get the FR-S. If the girlfriend doesn't know her place within the family heirarchy, then; Mazda, baby.

FR-S.
I get 29.4mpg on avg. with mainly suburban surface road driving.
Bought my 2013 used w/ 4,100 miles for $23.5k OTD.
Backseat has plenty of room for a dog.
Haven't driven in the winter yet, but everyone I've talked to says they handle great with a set of winter tires.
It is insanely fun! Perfect car to pull DD duties with occasional track day.
I'm totally not biased though. ;)

Compact (dart likely) SRT about to come out soon if you can wait it out. Turbo AWD they say. Jalops seem to be big fans of the little VW's out. 20K miles a year is a lot!

I'm hearing more like 2016 for the Dart AWD. Otherwise I'd definitely look at it.
I'm looking to get out of the Focus ASAP, otherwise I would just wait. Thank you, though!

Are A5s that cheap?
My only issue with warranty work is that I absolutely cannot have a car be out of service for much longer than a day or two. I travel a lot for work and have to be at X locations at Y time, if that makes sense.

Thanks for your input!
I've been leaning towards the FR-S quite a bit. My only concern is a lack of power when passing on the freeway and how small it is. Everything else I like quite a lot. I was *this* close to pulling the trigger on one before I bought my Focus.

I have heard horrendous things about GTI reliability and the VW dealership experience. :/
I should just daily an Elise.

The reliability and cost of repairs have kept me out of VW dealers, too.

I don't know about your dealer, but my local audi dealer will give a loaner for any service, and if they are out of loaners, and the work is more than 8nhours, they will give you a decent used vehicle to drive

Passing on the freeway is no problem, once you get it into 4,500rpm it will pull pretty hard. A quick downshift and you're gone. I mean, it may be small but it's really not that bad. I've seen plenty of people fit bikes or a full set of track wheels/tires in the trunk with the backseat down. A lot bigger than the Fit or Miata, and you'd have way more fun in it than the Fit and equally as much if not more than the Miata.

For $30k, I'll give you my 426 Challenger. It's roomy, gets about 20MPG on the highway and it's stock aside from the motor, so upkeep is pretty minimal.
Eh? Eh?

I think you would be very surprised at the space in the Fit. The rear legroom is on par with my Focus, if not bigger. It is an amazing car.
However, it doesn't get that great of mileage for how small it is. So, I'm really only saving on the monthly payments for the car.
I'm leaning towards the FR-S, though you can get a BRZ cheaper these days. Would like to see 24-25K out the door.
I'm doing a bunch of test drives this weekend to see what I like the best.

"Aside from the motor"
Haha, that would mean it's pretty far from stock then, my friend.
Not a huge Challenger fan. At that price I'm jumping into a new WRX. However, I'm interested to see some pictures of it just out of curiosity.

I just did a 4,000 mile road trip in it without issue. It's got an SRT block and ECU, so you can drop it at a dealer for recalls and TSBs and oil changes. You really would never know it is modified. Aside from the sound. And the wheel spin. And the irresistible urge to cackle like a child when you romp on it.
The engine build was about $15k. Built bottom end and low compression because I was originally shooting for a TT set up and about 1,000 HP. Then I pussied out once the engine dyno'd over 600HP.

Not my thing for sure, but very impressive. Why ya selling?

Not sure what prices are like in your area but with that budget in mind, I'd check out:
Genesis Coupe 3.8 GT
Infiniti G37

Did not think of the G37. I will take a look at that. I like the 3.8, but they are all expensive in my area.

Worried a bit about reliability on a BMW. Someone mentioned an Infinit G37S, which sounds like a good candidate. What do you think?

Been tempted by them before myself. Definitely nice cars. Easy to mod too. If you are the modding type. I know a few people who have gone twin turbo bolt on kits. Basically a 370Z in a nicer/heavier body/bigger. Definitely a good choice. For what its worth. I had a 2011 Mazdaspeed 3 for about 2000 miles. Bought it brand new. Traded it in after a month. Absolutely hated it..which sucks because i was really excited about it. Obviously plenty of people love it. But I was let down with it. It was a quick little car..but quality and function was terrible.
