Not only a watch collection, but a snobbery for mechanical watches. I bet you like cars with manual transmissions, too. And real wood and leather. And have a taste for aged liquor and hand rolled cigars, when you choose a cigar and not your pipe.

For those mechanically inclined, I think the Thomas Prescher Triple Axis Tourbillon is pretty much a grail watch. What are your favorite movements?

Do you know how to fix mechanical watches? I'd love to learn, my Invicta 1959 Russian Diver stopped. My favorite movement right now is The Swatch Sistem51, the 51 piece automatic movement is astounding

I gotta say that mechanical pieces are glorious.
You gotta admit though that having a watch that automatically updates the time according to the atomic clock is pretty amazing though.
Have a watch

I wish, alas I can't repair watches, but I would love to learn how to. And sorry about the Invicta, it's pretty. Do you have an everyday watch, or do you rotate through your whole collection?

Its under warranty until january, but Invicta's service dept is annoying to deal with to say the least. I was hoping to avoid it. I mainly wear one of my swatches as my everyday watche. Either My Sistem51 or My Irony Freezing Rain, But I do rotate when I feel like it. The problem is some of my watches are a little finicky, so its hard to wear them often.

If I had money, I'd have a vault full of watches and a psychiatrist to tell my need to buy watches stems from my mother and I need to stop. (Freud Joke)

since you clearly like watches, do you have any good suggestions for a simple, classy ,good-looking everyday watch for a somewhat poor college kid? Oh and I have a somewhat thin wrist

Throat still hurts like it did Monday. I made a couple comments and one post on 911 exhausts earlier when kinja was updated. It's like I have a sore in my throat for no apparent reason.

These are facts. I'll try to schedule an appointment for next week if I can.
It appears the throat pains are occurring in the tonsil area on the left side of my mouth/throat.

Agreed. I don't own any watches (except for a crappy Lotus I got when I was in highschool, but do I love nice watches; Only problem being I don't have the money to buy the ones I like :) Right now my love is for Autodromo !

Id like to spend around 50 though if there's a watch I'm enamored with that would be good everyday then I could go up to around 100. Currently what I've been wearing is a fake Rolex submariner with the (tho it's fake) special edition green bezel which is actually a great watch that I got for only 40$. I prefer clean and simple designs over some of those watches today that have gauges and dials all over the place that'll never get used

What about this:

I've always liked that model Seiko, and Amazon has it for $56. Its automatic, so it will never need winding nor will it ever need batteries

It looks great although I'm not sure how I feel about the canvas strap. Also I am very much a fan of automatic watches cuz they amaze me. Also I am very surprised you were still up at 330 am to answer my stupid watch question haha

They're not selling it anymore though. I really like the look of their new Stradale (but the price, not so much), but I could probably settle for the less expensive Veloce (around $400).

Its only 130 here in denver. What about this Invicta Pro Diver?
http://www.worldofwatches.com/detail.asp?iq=…
The Invicta Pro Diver was modeled loosely off of the Rolex Submariner
Invicta is also a Swiss brand

yeah I like that too, although I don't think Id wanna buy a watch that looks so similar to the one I use now which is actually a great watch despite being a knockoff. What do you think about Skagens? I don't know many watch brands but I've seen them at a couple of watch stores I've been to and I always thought they made some good looking watches

I don't really care for chronos so.... But I quite like the Prototypo too. Basically their complete lineup is awesome.

Skagen build quality is kinda so-so. But they look good. I can recommend anything by Invicta, I love them.
Another good one is swatch, check out their previous models on their website, you can get any of them from third parties online, NOS.

I'm very picky with chronos, But I like how Autodromo does chronos. Plus I like the functionality of chronos when they dont compromise the design aesthetic. And I love everything by autodromo

I almost started a conversation on one of the Gizmodo threads called "What real watch would you buy for $350"
The gushing over there may be intolerable, but I just don't care enough.
Besides, I wear $60 watches, so my answer would be "Five of these"

I've been looking at the swatches and there are a lot of nice looking ones, but now its so hard to choose. Im gonna try and measure my wrist later so I can find a nice fitting one because most watches are usually too big on me. What is NOS?

Good Idea to measure your wrist, I have a tiny wrist as well, all swatches fit me perfectly (every mens swatch ever made is 40mm) . NOS means NewOldStock, its like having a new watch thats not being made anymore
