People always bash Toyota for making appliances, boring mindless contraptions going from A to B but they are actually against the Driver not being in full control

"Toyota's main objective is safety, so it will not be developing a driverless car," Seigo Kuzumaki, Toyota's deputy chief safety technology officer, said during a conference.

Toyota does make some decent non-appliance cars, like the GT86/BRZ/FRS , IS F, RC F, and some neat concepts

Kristen Tabar, a vice president at the center: "The human being is the ultimate in sensor fusion. We have the visual, audible advantage, all the different inputs to make the best judgments moving forward."

I don't know if this was posted already, I haven't seen it here.

Toyota? Trying to be the drivers car?

I'm not sure how to react...

They did make some neat Drivers cars in the past, and currently offer the GT86, and some Lexus's are decent.

I find it funny because google used Prius' and Lexus RX when they where testing driverless cars

In the past they have, but nothing besides the Toyobaru has really sparked my interest since the Supra. But even they seem to be getting more beige, and the whole bit about not building a completely driverless car may mean some renewed horizons for them.

I feel like, after the Supra, the mid 2000s, they suffered from the most beige ever, having no sports cars after the Celica and MR2 where phased out.

But I think they are coming back, slowly, the Lexus RC, Toyobaru, FT-1 concept, etc.

As unlikely as it is, it'd be cool to see a hot sedan/coupe corolla like they did with the AE86

Maybe in the future, all the other car companies will be beige autonomous manufacturers, and toyota will be the last hope for the jalops

I'm seeing a bit of a comeback, but they really did kill it with the Corolla and Camry of the mid 2000s. If they had just one fun to drive car, their reputation would have been slightly less dull.

Hopefully, they'll kill some models off and introduce some new more interesting ones for the Toyota lineup.

Or atleast spice up their current offers. More manuals, sporty options, maybe the next gen Camrys/Corollas actually being good cars to drive, like their competitors ( I don't mind the Camry but it could be more sporty against stuff like the Optima or Fusion)

Yeah, Sport suspension and that type of stuff would be pretty nice to have even just as options.

It just feels so.....Floaty in the Camry and Corolla. There's no emotion to being in them.

I've driven the '08 Corolla S, it is a noticeable difference in suspension feel, but it could benefit from more horsepower and other sporty stuff. It'd be nice to maybe have high-tier sport packages other than just "S". Like TRD becoming more mainstream, for example.

Instead, Toyota will make the first driveless appliance.

I may have a new favorite car brand and I'm not sure how I feel about that. But hey toyota is behind the LFA and that's pretty cool.
