Just got hit by a car...

...no pics, had to go to class. On my bike riding across campus, Coming off a bike trail (comes out at a 4 way intersection), and crossing the street. Car completely ran a stop sign, turning left onto the street I was crossing. Bike is fucked, I'm in a bit of pain, and the asshole drove off. Got my bike to the bike rack, sitting in class now. What sucks is I have 30 minutes to get from my class, across campus to my car, and then to work — where I'm stuck until 11:30 tonight, and it's too late to find someone to cover a closing shift.

Ow.

UPDATE: Called work. Cool manager said he'd take the heat for me if the boss gets angry for me calling in last minute. Gonna head to campus PD after class, and see if they can find anything on video (though all of the cameras around here are mostly watching building entrances). Hopefully something comes of it.

UPDATE 2: Took the bus up to the student health center. After a bit of poking and prodding, they're giving me a free cab ride to the real hospital. Ugggh

Unfortunately the campus only has cameras around the buildings... didn't get a plate, and I was riding to class before class change, so there was nobody else on the sidewalks. :(

I'll see how I'm feeling after class.

Did you get any info about the car? Make/model/license/anything? I know it's hard to get that kind of stuff after something like that, but any lead could help.

Pro tip: take some ibuprofen or some type of pain killer deal thing tonight cause you'll be feeling sore tomorrow.

I hate that garbage and it happens all the time which is why I'm such a proponent of helmets.

This is why "share the road" sucks. How about "yielding so you don't lose you f'ing license." You should file a report if you remember anything. Don't pull any punches either.

I was going straight, they turned left into me), I didn't get a good look of the car. Pretty bad Jalop of me. Dark colored sedan is about the best I can do.

The way they came up behind me, I didn't even see them. And I was too busy falling on my face to get a good look as they drove off. Wasn't wearing a helmet, but I broke my fall before smashing my face / head.

That's terrible. If you have some idea of what the car looked like, keep an eye open for it around campus and see if you notice any scratched up/dented bumpers. You never know what could come of it.

Get some rest tomorrow, you're gonna need it! Hope you're not too banged up man.

No witnesses? That sounds like a felony H&R to me. Keep an eye out for that car. It was probably traveling a route that it will take again. Glad you're okay.

Thanks, $kay. Luckily I managed to not get cut up / scraped / road rashed. He hit my front wheel / front fork, and I pretty much stayed on my bike as I went up and on my side. Bike took the brunt of the damage, but I took handlebars to the abdomen / groin, and a mirror to my leg.

Hopefully nothing worse than some bad bruising.

Maybe you should call up your boss and be like, "Hey, a freaking car just mowed me down and wrecked my bike. Is there any way I can get out of work today and go to the campus health center or the hospital or something? Thanks."

Unfortunately no witnesses. It wasn't during class change, so there was nobody else on the sidewalks / roads. Definitely considered felony hit and run here. I'll keep an eye out for a damaged car. The road they turned onto is an odd one way road, that's pretty much only useful to access some dorm parking, so he'll probably go that way again.

Yeah but it's an at-will state. They can actually fire you for that (it's happened to coworkers here, and at other jobs). And I definitely need the job. I'll call after class and at least see what they say.

You should still call the police and file a report, even after the fact. Tell them as much as you can remember about the car, and they can be on the lookout for it. It likely has some front end damage.

Nah, the FR-S is just fine in the parking garage. The means of transportation to my means of transportation is a bit mangled.

EDIT: I called. The boss is out, manager ok'd me going to the police / doctor instead... so if the boss gets angry, the manager said he'll take the blow.

File a police report. Call a lawyer. (Fellow got run over. Guy (or gal) who did it should pay for the crime.) And go to the Campus Health Clinic or Dr. Take care of yourself.

Please be sure to file a report. Give the PD all the information you can remember. Take photographs of the damaged bike, your injuries, and go back and take pictures of the scene. Do whatever you can to help them find, and charge, this dirtbag.
