CVTs can be fun too

It all depends on packaging.

Hand on heart, fighting with the terrible CVT in my '85 Honda Aero is more engaging than any manual I've ever experienced.

As long as it can get you to Candy Mountain, you're good. Just guard your kidneys...

Had me a really nice Honda Aero 80cc scooter a few years back. Man that was a fun little scoot.

As for CVTs, meh, they're getting to be pretty good, even in car applications. The phase II CVTs that Subaru are using in their new WRX and Forester XT are pretty engaging.

That extra 30cc of 2-smoke must have made it pretty lively! People are always impressed with the power when I let them ride my "puny" little 50cc.

And as far as engagement goes, I was speaking more to the rather unpredictable nature of old tech CVTs. Like when the Aero decides it is going to shift just outside of the torque band mid corner :)

This "Don't hate the autos" BS is getting out of hand guys. You're defending CVTs now.

Haha. Yeah, actually that 80cc was pretty quick right off the line, but ran out of steam once it hit about 40 mph, then it would slowly creep its way up to about 47 mph.

47 mph on tiny scooter wheels feels like you're doing about 100. :P

Weren't these fixed gear CVTs that had a top speed of only 30?

No, this is probably better, if not a close second.

I was only half serious here, merely stating that not all CVTs are garbage (or rather ones that are garbage can be a hoot in the right vehicle). I apologetically support the clutch pedal wielding master race, but I don't have to commute in traffic.

Yeah the 50 is basically the same (minus 7-10MPH).

Honestly, the scooter is the reason I sold my 1000cc sport-bike for a smaller bike. I realized I was having just as much fun (maybe more) on my little 50cc runabout.

No, true variable ratio belt driven CVTs with a top speed of around 40

Totally forgot that gokarts are usually CVTs as well!
