I agree that automatically hating autos is kinda lame. The people hating on the SMG in the M3 probably don't realize the biggest reason it was hated was for driving in traffic. Where a lot of people who would buy an E46 M3 now will probably be taking them straight to the track or an autocross where I'm sure the SMG will be plenty appreciated.

The Miata on the other hand I do not approve unless you would otherwise not drive a Miata. Then I begrudgingly accept it.

CVT does not even approach other autos how bad it sucks so I refuse to group it with them. That being said the only reason I think you should truly favor a manual over anything else is for the romance of the experience. The only cars that are really big on the experience over anything else anymore is the Miata and the BRZ.

I don't think it's necessary to justify your transmission choice for a personal car with anything more than "Because I want one", or "Because I like it better."

That said, CVTs do still truly suck on a higher level.

well the sky isn't blue at all, its just white light being refracted, that said it is always blue, your view of the blue is merely obstructed by clouds or made non-visible by a lack of light to refract.

bam! so... autos suck, except on cloudy days or at night! #SCIENCE

Late/early in the day, sunlight must travel through more atmosphere due to it's angle of approach. More atmosphere = more scattering. By the time it reaches you all the blue has scattered off, which is why sunsets are red/orange/pink and not blue.

Standard automatics are a good thing for a lot of people. It's not the enthusiast's choice but it's still acceptable. CVT's are still absolute dogshit and if you know anyone that has bought one they should be shunned like the pariah they are.
