Yup. I can agree with that. I've driven all kinds of 911's and a few Boxters, but never a Cayman. I'm curious. Time to put on some nice clothes, got to the Porsche dealership, and pretend daddy's buying me a graduation present.

I saw a black 911 and a black Cayman both with georgia plates moving along I71 south in Columbus, Ohio a couple years ago and something about them made me think it was for a car magazine.

I would get the 20" 911 Turbo Design wheels, like in the picture I posted. I think those are actually a great set of wheels.

It's also a better car than the 911. There, I said THAT...

I still like the 911, but it's gaining weight and losing performance that it could have. If Porsche wants to turn it into a big GT car, whatever, go ahead, but they need to admit it and move on, and quit dicking around with the Cayman and make it the car it could be and should be. We're getting a taste of that with the GTS, so they need to keep this up.

I've driven all kinds of 911's of various trims and eras, and a few Boxters, but never a Cayman. I've only heard great things and I am so curious. Hopefully they keep this up and in a few years when I might be able to afford a used one, the GTSs won't stay super expensive.

Right! And then, really, they'll be making advertising money off of TWO cars, so their essentially making twice the money off of each of us. Although I have to say that my 2002 is being a royal pain in my ass right now. It's usually fine, but it's costing me some serious dough at the moment. Really, I love BMW because of what they used to be. They don't excite me quite as much as their older cars do.

I bought mine on impulse at a really dark moment in my life, for way, way more than I should have, and every day that it sits in my driveway I'm reminded of that dark, dark time. That is why I hate the 2002. Seeing its ugly fucking face every single day is the last reminder of how bad shit went for me. That is why I despise BMW. That is why I plan on having the car crushed.

As far as the current luxury market goes, I have to call (and i SWEAR TO GOD i'm not biased, this is based purely on what I know) Cadillac the best mainstream luxury maker in the world.

I can certainly see how that would make for a stressful 'relationship' with the 2002. I don't know if I would crush it though. I had a lot of bad memories attached to my Nissan xTerra and I really needed to see it gone. I ended up selling it for next to nothing because someone else wanted it, and honestly I would've just given it to them if that meant I wouldn't have to live with it every day. Especially with a car like the 2002, someone will really want it and appreciate it. Then it'll be out of your life, and both you and whoever takes it will be for the better. You know? Obviously I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to tell you what to do, just offering my unsolicited input.

As for Caddy, I'm seriously impressed with them right now. They have seriously stepped their game up. I don't know if I would call them the best (I'm super Euro-bias though so take that with a grain of salt), but they're a serious contender in that segment.

So do I, by a good bit. I think the Cayman is one of the best looking cars on the planet.

Evidently many others do as well, when I watched the interview on /Drive with the Manhattan Car club the one guy of the 2 owners who is an unabashed 911 homer admitted that when they drive the cars around the country the Cayman always gets more attention than any of their 911's.

The rear end is just infinitely more attractive. Don't get me wrong, I love the 911 and would absolutely love to own one. But, as of right now, if someone was offering me a free Porsche under $125k, I would spec a Cayman GTS.
