One thing I cannot stand to see is a cluttered dashboard. Frankly, I find it disgusting and it shows an obvious lack of care for your vehicle. Not only is it gross, but it's also dangerous. In my eyes, there's no excuse to let papers, trash, and god knows what else pile up on your dashboard. Clean that shit up.
Two other things I despise are bald tires and low tire pressure. Both equally dangerous and something that most people (who aren't car people) don't pay much attention to.
So, what's your biggest automotive pet peeve?

Oh man, turn signals for one. Hit and runs for minor damage. Texting and driving. But possibly the one that might not show up is fucking idiots who cannot maintain a speed. ESPECIALLY when you are a passenger in said car. Gas, brakes, gas, brakes over and over again.

It's actually a really dangerous way to sit, too, since it blocks the airbags and could potentially get your legs through the window.

My mother in law puts stuff on everybody's dash when she rides in the passenger seat. I drive a Miata with the top and windows down at all times and I take tight turns. I learn to enjoy the little things in life, like the sound of her library book hitting the pavement.

Hitting them with a fire extinguisher leaves less blood, unless you hit them too hard. Then they bleed like a stuck pig.

In order:
1) Fluid leaks. Few things make me want to burn a car to the ground more than a leak. I'd rather it not run than leak anything.
2) Interior rattles/squeaks. Turning up the volume is the band-aid solution, but there have been many a times when I've had someone drive my car while I crawl around it like a monkey on crack looking for his fix, pushing on panels and pieces to identify the source of the noise.
3) Cloudy headlights. Easy and cheap to make the entire car look new again.

not moving to the right when youre slower than other traffic. (had to word that carefully)
the corollary to this: Passing on the right. its effing dangerous.
this leads to my ultimate pet peeve: not moving to the right when youre in front of me, causing me to pass on the right. just move over!

Changing the station every 5 seconds even in XM because "you don't like the song" well maybe others in the car do
Smoking but that's more in general. I don't want to smell that shit.
Texting and driving.

People who drive in the rain with headlights off.
People who don't signal their lane changes.
People who text and drive.
People who change the radio station every 3 seconds.
People who ride your ass while you're already doing 10 over.
People who use their gas and brake pedals like on/off switches.
People who call all American cars shit.
People who think they're better than you because they drive a more expensive car.

As usual, this will be "pending approval" forever and nobody will see it..but:
Most of you are commenting on cars you already own/have owned, but my biggest pet peeve is with buying a new car. Specifically "trim packages" You want leather seats? Ok, you must also get a sunroof, upgraded stereo/ nav and a few other frivolous extras for a $3-4k bump in price instead of just the few hundred dollars leather would cost. Car makers are very good at throwing in popular options on higher trim levels forcing you to either cough up the extra bucks (and get stuff you may not want just to get one item you DO want) or just get the base model and try to forget you ever wanted that thing..
