So this is a question that pops up every now and then but crept into the mind this morning: What cars don't exist anymore? As in, what models/makes (not brands, long live Pontiac) just aren't on planet Earth anymore? What's gone extinct?

This thought was furthered by a post I found this morning from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on some endangered cars. The Hagerty's post led me to this photo of a BMW Bavaria which apparently only a few examples exist of still. So, Opponauts, what cars don't exist anymore? (Or to liven it up, which cars only have a few remaining examples?)

Also, here's a video from Hagerty about some endangered cars to spur us along.

Most 70's japanese cars are basically non existent in the states. My 85 745i and most e23's that were in the US are basically gone now, most survivors are sitting in fields in the southwest. I'm sure in due time it'll be hard to find a clean marauder anywhere since most of them end up on blocks in Philadelphia

That's funny, I was pondering the same thing earlier. I nominate the Chrysler Norseman, although it was technically a one off concept. Whatever's left of it can be found dissolving at the bottom of the ocean. * sigh *

Good point about the 70's Japanese cars. I've been trying to buy an old Japanese car for a while now without much luck! (mostly because of pickiness)

GM EV1s are supposed to be gone, but there's one, holding out.

I recall the Morris Marina for one - mentioned on Top Gear. Based on registration, fewer than one in a thousand are still on the road. Only 745.

For a while, Ford Falcons were rarely seen - you'd see probably 20 '60s Mustangs for every Falcon despite similar levels of production. That's been reversing somewhat as people dig them out and fix them, but it's still not a car you see much - particularly given that they made millions.

BMW Bavaria is a BMW E3 in the States, right? These aren't that few in my world.

Come to Ontario, barely anything exists for very long, non-american pre-80s cars are rarer than unicorns

Suzuki Aerio. There's no car has come and disappear so quickly as the Aerio in the past 10 years.

My personal thought was what I thought was a 1928 Cadillac but now I'm not sure. I sat in one once and it was like one of only 6 still around but for the life of me can't remember exactly what it was. May have been this Meteor Motor Car limo, though

I used to walk past a Bavaria every day and that was rare even then, in the 80s, and that of course made it all the more exotic looking.

I haven't seen a Subaru Brat since the 90s. I'm sure a few old hilljacks have one of these stashed away under a tarp.

Most anything with a Merkur badge, specifically the Scorpio.

AMC Eagle. What a dreadful machine. The PT Cruiser of its day.

The Checker. The moment they were retired from cab service it seems they all disappeared, and there were very very few sold for private use. The only one I've ever seen since 1999 was in a junkyard.

Oh man, I saw a video a few days ago of people just beating on some Subarus and there were a couple Brats just enjoying the mud. I think there used to be one where I lived in Florida a few years ago. They're definitely few and far between!

There are still a decent number of Bavarias (US-only model) around, if you know where to look. E3 was the BMW factory model code.

A thing of beauty! Sadly, a thing that only exists in photographs these days. Rumor has it some divers found some hubcaps and maybe some scrap metal but by now I imagine the whole thing to have vanished into rusty dust.

Most prewar Toyotas are extinct.

1936-1943 AA: 1,403 built, believed 1 survivor

1936-1943 AB: 353 built, no survivors

1938-1943 AC: 115 built, about 5-6 survivors

1939-1943 AE: 76 built, no survivors

Prewar Checkers have similar fates

Extinct Checkers: Model H-2, Model E, Model F, Model G, Model K, Model M, and Model Y (no survivors). The Model C from 1923 and the Model A from 1940 have one survivor each.

The 1923 Chevrolet Series M is basically extinct, 759 built and only 2 survive (both in museums).

Also, the 1925-1926 Ajax Six is pretty well gone. Almost all of the 66,000 built were rebadged as Nash Light Sixes.

The Andrea Doria itself has largely collapsed into a heap, so anything inside made of much thinner and more fragile steel would be long gone by now. Besides, the car would have been badly crushed when the ship keeled over.

Ditto the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation Sonatas, actually, any pre-2000 Hyundai, come to think of it.
