OK, I've been on Jalopnik for almost a year now, and have been posting semi-actively since then. I started in the gray, was removed from the gray along with everyone else, then was put back into the gray as a part of the Jezebel rape GIF debacle. Could I get a follow on Jalopnik and the various subforums, please?
As a bribe, I submit this classic for your viewing pleasure:

Seriously. Isn't like people are asking to be contributors, but just to be recognized. Can't believe it's taken this many weeks already to shake out. You would think someone could apply an algorithm.

I have no front page powers, but I just followed you myself for your Eric Praline reference skills. Clearly you are a man of taste and principle.

Or just simple moderation of threads. If somebody isn't a troll, promote them permanently and move on. There have been rumors of the return of the old starring system, which would do just this. I'd like to see that happen.

I think all Oppo authors should be out of the grey on jalopnik. I mean, why even call this a subblog of Jalopnik if we are all in the grey?

I wish to register a counter complaint: I hate when people assume that Oppositelock is Jalopnik and that we can do something about it.
In all seriousness, the FP peeps hang out here from time to time but I wouldn't count on being seen and the rest of us can do nothing for you. I've been in and out of gray/stars/etc so many times and each time I just have to do the "post good stuff and wait for it to be noticed" dance.
Also, its nice to see another Utahn, where abouts?

I know most of Oppo can't, but maybe there's a chance someone who does have authority will see this, ya know?
I'm in Millcreek... you?

I'll second that proposal.

I'm assuming this means after your post has received x+ stars from x*unique people, you're auto-validated. Or a moderation forum where it's one trustworthy fellow who entertains all requests? Both sound perfectly reasonable. Anything is reasonable compared to all the sensationalism that sent things into a tailspin.
Anyway, I'm not super-bummed about being gray in Jalopnik, but the fact that I'm default-gray in every single blog until otherwise approved is kinda a letdown.
Been enjoying most my time among Oppositelock users anyway.

In the old days (pre-Kinja), all comments were unapproved until promoted by the author or another starred commenter. Stars were handed out by Jalopnik authors and mods. Once you made a number of good comments, and attracted positive attention, you got a star. But that was also when comment threads were more actively moderated. Kinja, with its comment dismissal system, put the moderation in the hands of the original poster or commenter, and the more active moderation went away.
Spending more time in Oppo is a good thing. It's a very friendly place.

I live in Sandy, by the Library. Unfortunately the only people that can help you are Jalopnik authors, and even if they did see your plea here it would require a lot of work to track down and determine if they wanted to follow you. Not to be a dick about it, but that's all that can be done really, even as an oppositelock moderator.
