Kinja'd!!!2 Kinja'd!!! 24

I found out that I have two weeks, instead of one, left for my winter vacation, in December(had no idea I worked so much this year), and I'm seriously thinking to go visit a few European countries, I was taking a look at things to do and places to go, I got to see some Euro bills, have a look:

Kinja'd!!!

They are like a friken' rainbow, also Europeans really seem to like bridges. And their coins have different backsides, depending on the country they're come from.

Kinja'd!!!

We should try this for our coins too, it will be fun watching the southern states going for confederate symbols, Texas putting Dubya on their coin and California, Elon Musk, maybe?

Also, the British still use their own money, how old fashion is that?

Bah, minting Euro coins is so basic.

America has boring money, but we have the best license plates in the world. No one seems to remember that detail.

I usually pay with cards, but it's good to know the currency of a place you plan to visit.

Apparently, 1 Euro coins are made from two pieces. If you hit the centre sharply enough, it'll pop out.

Germany is a problem with that strategy. Learned that the hard way.

Huh? You mean the country that gave the world German engineering doesn't like our cards?

It was a PITA in both Berlin and Munich. I was there on business and basically had to either burn my cash or wander from restaurant to restaurant asking if they took credit cards, and of those that did I needed one that took my corporate AMEX.

Stores were pretty much OK but I couldn't count on it.

Same thing with 2 Euro coins. Kids like to break them. (Or at least did when I was that age)

Weird, I've had the opposite experience the last couple times. There were some places that said they didn't take American cards because they didn't have the chip in them but if you told them to just type it in they worked fine. Used AMEX about 70% of the time only using cash for really small purchases at cafes or whatever.

Same cities? And I didn't get screwed for being from the USA, they were really nice people and I look German.

That's the old 5 euro bill, the new one looks like this.

There are also many special coins commemorating important people or events.

Yup, MUC last year and Berlin a couple before that. I wasn't saying they didn't like Americans specifically, it's because Euro credit cards have a chip in them that has contacts like a SIM card and some of the restaurants don't have magnetic swipe readers needed for US cards so if you come up speaking English asking if they'll take the card they say no. If you tell them to manually type in the number it'll work though.

I'll have to remember that, thanks! I am headed back in a few weeks. Actually talking to accounting about getting a chipped AMEX in a few minutes.

When did they change it already? This Euro thing is relatively recent.

For historical reasons the Germans distrust credit cards.

The € has been around for a dozen years by now. I think the reason is to try and keep ahead of the forgers. Most places change their notes frequently. The plan with the € is to change all the notes beginning with the fiver.

Good to know, I'm surprised the Germans are lazy enough, to wait until you tell them to type the number. I remember them being quite nice and helpful people, when my parents took me to Europe, back when I was a kid. They still had D-Marks back then.

The pound hasn't change because it is still an international standard, not to the extent of the US dollar, and it is still strong (though it took a bit of a stumble with the Scotland independence talk).

Will fall harder if George Soros(or another shark like him) attacks it again, and if the UKIP has its way and gets Britain out of the EU.
