The 996 still has the essential 911 shape. For that reason, I'm totally okay with it.

Atleast it's not that. I think the mods that he's done are tasteful. They're subtle, and the average person wouldn't know any different.

I never really liked the looks of them. Given the prices and the simple fact that its a 911, I now figure that "disliking the headlights" is a silly reason to look down on a car.

Was at the track this weekend and went on a ride-along with my 60+ year-old instructor in his 996 GT3. HO LEE HELL was it amazing. Feeling the weight of the car rotate behind you and then push you forward to shoot out of the turn was incredible. Was just amazed and his confidence in the car and his own ability.

I've only driven one 911, and it was the mostly unloved 996 convertible. I still "got it". Would kill to drive a properly set up '70s car someday. Here's a link to my impressions of that 996, if you're interested:
