Tell me about how unreliable they are, about mileage and what are common things to go wrong, about the good times and bad times. Tell me about your P38 experience, they can be yours or things you've heard about!

It's a beautiful plane, but I've never flown one.

The P-38 was a World War II American fighter aircraft built by Lockheed. Developed to a United States Army Air Corps requirement, the P-38 had distinctive twin booms and a single, central nacelle containing the cockpit and armament. Named "fork-tailed devil" (der Gabelschwanz-Teufel) by the Luftwaffe and "two planes, one pilot" by the Japanese, the P-38 was used in a number of roles, including dive bombing, level bombing, ground-attack, night fighting, photo reconnaissance missions, and extensively as a long-range escort fighter when equipped with drop tanks under its wings.
I hope that helps.

Major Dick Bong thinks they're pretty reliable.

How is that? I was thinking of downloading it, but wasn't positive if it would be worth the time sunk into it.

It is quite fun to play with other people, and the battles are really packed, you can create a squad and play with friends plus shitloads of planes.
TheBloody, Oppositelock lives on in our shitposts.

They're easy to mod, are about the same reliability wise but fun as hell. I'm more drawn to the Classic though, because it's just so pretty.

Picked one up in Denver for $4200 while on vacation in Colorado. Took it off-road all over the place and then drove it back to Texas. Yeah, there's been problems with it but it's been running for 6 years. Love the P38. Would rather have a Classic but those fall apart way faster.

How many miles when you bought it?

It had around 82,000 miles on it when we got it. I think it has around 150,000 right now.

The one I'm looking at has only 35k, any major thing gone kaputt?

Wow, that's really low mileage. The only other Rover I've had go through that period had no problems from 30k-60k.
Around 90k, I had the radiator and belts go. Also had the driveshaft fall off and knock a hole in the transmission housing. Really fun fix. In all, I've still got it because it's a great vehicle.
Be wary of the electricals. The tail lights will be a big thing to fix constantly and watch the radiator hoses for cracks or rot. An whatever you do, try not to put high-ethanol fuel (like e85) in it. Those just screw up everything.

Clarkson once got 7mpg out of one in city traffic.
