"505 - morphine not found" (morphine500)

I understand the notion Jason put forward to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with something else. I thought about it a lot during the weekend, when my wife discovered she really liked to have a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen one day. With auto and sunroof, preferably.
There are people who don't really care about cars, just the image it projects - if there is such a thing. I know Jeremy Clarkson talks a lot about projected image too, and personally, i never liked that way of thinking, not even from him. Why? Because that's a prejudice, straight and simple. And a prejudice is when a brain is lazy to think about something, and just refers to easy answers.
I'm not lazy to think. And I care much more about a car itself, than the image it projects. So therefore I would say, that people who frequent this watering hole should know enough about the car they want to converse about, to leave the lazy prejudiced categorizations behind, and not replace the term "chick car" but simply forget it.
Or am i wrong?

Thank you. I could not agree more. That's what I tried to say, we should not worry about the image of a car but just learn to not care what people think.

Agreed, my girlfriend is somewhat of a girly girl yet she really wants a Suzuki Jimny, preferably in a dark colour.
Not some pink beetle or miata or whatever is classed as girly at the moment.

I don't think it's right to categorize any particular vehicle as being "for girls" just because it has certain attributes. However, I don't think girls help themselves when they say they're "into" cars by getting pink windshield wipers, or smothering their lifted F-150 in pink parts. That just perpetuates the stereotype IMO.

My girlfriend loves the G-class...absolutely loves it. She loves boxy vehicles because they are different and therefore she gets drawn to the most random things (often times of the classic variety).
I'll call some vehicles "soft" but never liked the "chick car" moniker.

I don't think it's right to categorize any particular vehicle as being "for boys" just because it has certain attributes. However, I don't think boys help themselves when they say they're "into" cars by getting carbon fiber windshield wipers, or smothering their lifted F-150 in Truck Nutz and chrome knicknacks from Autozone. That just perpetuates the stereotype IMO.

Yeah but if you think about it, pink is just a color as any other. Saying it's a girly color is in itself getting you muddled up in gender studies. And yes, i once owned, and wore on numerous occasions: a pink shirt, if not from the brightest shade, but still.

Well, what I'm saying is, if every single female owned a modified vehicle gets pink accents, then I can't help but make an association between the gender of the driver and the color I'm seeing. Obviously, not every "cargirl" does it

I actually sometimes prefer that my Miata is viewed as a "chick" car. Just gives me a fun way to prove people wrong. I have taken a lot of people for rides that would never have even sat in one unless I made them. 15 minutes on a back road with them white knuckling the windshield frame or door handle and their minds are changed forever. They either fall in love or refuse to ride with me ever again. Win win.

Does my car have pink accents? Sure does! Back in the day when it was cool and everyone was painting their interior trim and bowties, all the guys with black cars were going with red, green, blue, yellow and the like. What did that leave me? Pink. No one would go near it.
Would I ever do that to a car again? No. But I'm not going to re-paint the stuff now, so I just rock it. Tow-hooks? Pink. Rear swaybar? Pink. Track map stickers for the 5 tracks I've ran on? Pink. Metallic. Glitter.
The only thing worse than seeing a Cobalt all up in your mirror, is seeing one with a pink bowtie, being driven by a girl.

Now imagine having to "prove people wrong" about literally everything you enjoy (football , motorcycles, cars, airplanes, martial arts, math, physics, etc) and God forbid you mess up the slightest bit of trivia lest you "prove" that your entire half of the population is dumb. It gets real old, real fast, just like the old men at C&Cs who assume I'm just humoring my boyfriend by coming along and what a smart man he is for "getting me into it," the salesmen at motorcycle dealerships who direct the conversations to him though he doesn't even ride and I'm the one in the market for a Ducati, the coworkers who change the conversation from fantasy football because a lady wouldn't want to talk about it, yada yada. Every. fucking. day.
It's just exhausting and I'm over it.

Only because the most insulting thing you do to most guys is call him a girl, or worse than a girl, because they still think of themselves as the "default" gender, and we're inherently inferior.
See: Versa Note Guy's vague ideas on pink mods and overall tone that car girls need to prove themselves worthy by his standards
Also, for real, dude? You get to brag about driving a Versa Note and no one bats an eye, but the second a woman has pink stuff you can't take her seriously? HAH.

Wow. OK I was merely interjecting some humor around Miata's specifically since 90% of the people that own one around this site jumps at the chance to make a convert. I wasn't speaking about the politics of gender bias/roles per se.
With the examples you have given, perhaps you should surround yourself with more forward thinking people. I know you can't change people like the motorcycle dummy, but with things like the fantasy football, surely it must feel good to come into the conversation and blow some minds with stats and knowledge. Try not to look at it as always proving someone wrong, instead aim to show that you are right.
Besides, if you're not willing to show that you are right about something, you can't very well expect things to change.

I didn't mean that as a rant at you in particular, just demonstrating how something that's a minor annoyance to dudes with Miatas reflects larger attitude problems in the community as a whole. And the thing with blowing minds, sure, but the point is it is tiresome to do every single day to every single person assuming you know nothing because stereotype.

If I wanted to only surround myself with forward thinking people at say track days, I have a feeling there would be maybe 5 to 10 people there.
I had an (old) guy lecture me on the fact I should be running some race gas at track days to bump up the octane and help with knock. "You could put in a gallon or two, and that tank of gas will last you all day." Some facts: I run a custom tune for E85. I use a half tank of said E85 per session. I told him these facts and knowledge, many times. He would not listen to me. I was too polite to just walk away, and finally one of my guy friends noticed I was trapped, and he came over. Listened for about two minutes. Told him the same things I said. Apparently then it made sense, and the guy realized it would be a poor decision.
This is not the first time I've been lectured or quizzed on things by guys trying to see if I actually know what I'm talking about.

Understandable. I would rethink that minor annoyance part though. That cuts deeper than a lot people want to admit. And that's just the "chick" part so you can imagine what staunchly heterosexual guys feel about the other comments. Either way though, that wasn't why I started the comment. It was more of a "Miata is always the answer" riff. I know all too well how completely backwards this country is. You hear Americans decry regularly that we are the greatest country on the planet, but we have some of the worst and ugliest ingrained biases and prejudices and hatred known to man. We have come a long way as a society, but we aren't even half way yet...

On that point, it's also pretty effed up to think that being called "girly" is supposed to be a deep cut.... reinforcing that women are still seen as inherently inferior and a man should be ashamed of being compared to a woman in any way. Don't get me started on the US, I live in Michigan and Ontario looks more and more tempting every day.

That's why I said that about not being able to change the motorcycle guy to her. You can't change the minds of people you are just meeting, but you can choose to not continue association with people like that. That was my point.
I am finding it hilarious that I brought up my experience with my car and as a bit of humor and somehow I have ended up with my toes pinched by errant soap boxes.

As I mentioned, please don't take it that way. The experience you shared with your car just struck a chord with some of my experiences, and that's why I brought it up: Because something that is used as an insult to car guys is the daily reality to women who just want to share the same hobby.

Be my guest, it's apparent that a couple of people here are intent on attacking me. Again, my car my experience my way of changing peoples minds about things that they don't know everything about. I was trying to voice my support of your ideas. Also, ANY prejudices are bad. By acting like someone else's problems are not as severe as your own weakens your standing with who you are trying to educate regardless of the subject matter. Sorry I pissed you two off.
