I had to drive my mom back from the dealership where she dropped her car off for service. On the way back, she chastised me for driving 27mph around a turn that a) I've driven at least 50 times, b) was completely dry and free of any oncoming traffic or danger, and c) HAS THE SIGN THAT SAYS 30MPH. Like this but 30mph.

Kinja'd!!!

I wasn't taking it, as I've had a long and bad day. I decided to get back at her (yes I know this isn't a nice thing to do) by driving 10mph below the limit and taking turns half as fast as usual for the rest of the 20 minute drive.

Kinja'd!!!

As a bonus, I also spoiled the results of the Women's Finals at the US Open.

My mom does the same exact freaking thing . She once made me pull to the curb after I took a turn in our neighborhood at 15mph (speed limit's 25) and lectured me about "safe driving" after literally five seconds on the move (the turn was <200 feet from my house). I now do everything I can to avoid driving with her.

My mom insisted on me giving her a ride when I got my FiST. I ended up chirping the tires for the 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd shifts. She forbade me from driving her ever again.

I have done this to my mom before when she yells at my speed, but she got back at me.

She made a right turn and rolled a stop sign. I chastised her for the Cali stop. She slams on the brakes, throws it in reverse, reverses all the way back down the block, and back around the corner at 35mph (fast for going backwards), and comes to a stop behind the stop sign. She proved her point.

My mom yells my name like this: MACONMACONMACONMACON! at piercing volume if she so much as thinks someone within a mile is slowing down or a light is changing and I might not notice. To get back at her I slam on the brakes when it is safe to do so and demand that if she knows how to drive better, then she can just drive. She also constantly asks me if I know where we are going, so I do 5 turns around the block of the place we are going to illustrate my annoyance.

Do what I always do and go all autocross on her, and she'll learn. Otherwise they keep it up their entire lives for no reason.

My mom only says stuff about my "harsh" steering.

I try to avoid riding with my mom, and even when I drive like an ass she's mostly ok with it. That said, I've never taken her on an autocross run yet, or pushed anywhere near the limits with her in the car. She used to be a rally co-driver (TSDs and the like, not Dusty style, lol), so I guess she's just not phased by it?

Despite being married and a parent, my mom does similar things.

"Josh!!! You took too sharp of a turn!"

"Mom, I know what I'm doing."

"Josh!!!!" She was holding on to the 'oh crap' bar in the car.

Later I told my wife about what happened. She laughed, then I paused and had a thought.

"Do I take sharp turns?"

"Yes you do. But I know they are coming"

Eh, I'll take it as a compliment.

My parents live so far away from me, I think I have only been driving with them 3x in the last 4 years.
