The University of Iowa seems like it'd be awesome to go to.

Kinja'd!!!

The whole experience this weekend really opened my eyes and I've thought through some things long and hard and come to the following consensus...

I'm dropping out of the auto tech program and going into the engineering program hosted at my home school.

When I first started at tech, I loved it. But after just a few weeks in I almost dread going there in the morning. The bus ride's long, the people in my class don't care, and my teacher hasn't really taught us much anything... just how to clean the shop. Then when I almost crushed a kid last week with the lift, I was pretty much done.

So Monday I'm going to talk to my counselor about getting me out of it next semester and just toughing it through the rest of this semester since we're already more than two weeks into this school year and I can't drop it without failing.

I should've listened to my science teacher last year when he said I'd be perfect for the engineering program. He said it right to my face I'm wasting my time going into auto tech, and now I believe him 100%.

So yeah, major changes happening, along with me trying harder to raise my GPA so my chances of getting into the U of I go significantly up. Because damn I really loved that place... I even bought a T-shirt! I never buy T-shirts from places I visit!

Congrats if you made it to the end of this rambling, here's a car.

You keep saying "U of I".

I don't think that abbreviation means what you think it means.

I was too lazy to type out university of iowa five times.

I'd hope they could figure it out.

As much as I love giving our eastern neighbors shit, there can be no denying that they have some great schools. My first (and so far only) visit was to Drake, and I was impressed.

IIRC, Iowa is "UI".

Illinois is sort of weird. The university is super cereal about colloquially calling itself either "Illinois" or "U of I". However, it was formerly UIUC, and many of the academic pages still use that abbreviation, as do most of the students. But if I tell people I go to "UIUC", they normally have no idea what I'm talking about.

If all of you guys end up engineers and all the students I'm pushing end up engineers I am going to drive even more awesome things. I love it when a plan comes together.

Wow! You're combining two things you're interested, design and cars, into something you can actually make money doing! Good stuff!

Don't worry for a second about "wasted time". Many people spend years working at things they don't really want to do. They get college degrees they never plan to use. You've figured out that wasn't your path, in a matter of a few weeks. Not too shabby! Believe it or not, you've learned a lot in the last few weeks. It was just about yourself and about life, not about cars.

Pay attention during this semester. There will be more to learn. Some about cars, and some about people. All important.

You're going to have to put your nose to the grindstone my young friend. Engineering schools do not fuck around. I certainly didn't have the grades for it. But anything worth having, is worth working for. I'm excited for you.

Funny, I went to uni to study audio technology and dropped out and am now awaiting confirmation whether I'm accepted onto a mechanical engineering course at college here...it's a part time course that leads to an HND (a year short of a degree) that runs every Wednesday. Before I could say to employers and agencies that I'm fully flexible , now I've already had an interview unsuccessful just for that reason and agencies aren't even putting me forward because employers don't want to adjust for that ARGH
