I want a Discovery 2, exactly like this one but maybe in green.

And cream leather with blue piping.

You're not insane OP. I owned a Disco 1 and do not regret it one bit. It was absolutely the most fun I've had in a 4x4xfar.
/I'll show myself out.

My dad has always had Defenders and Discos, All diesel and all Manual. They are simply awesome!
His 2000 Discovery was my favourite out of all of them , The first car we ever had with leather and the ability to camp on top of the Safari rack.

But I already own two french cars and one of them has Hydra, I'm sure they would gang up and bankrupt me.

You are making me want it even more. I might give on buying a P38 and get a newer Defender.

Yeah I can understand owning only one or two Europeans at a time, when you have more than that it can get... well... hectic. That's why I sold my Disco and am about to buy an Alfa 164. Masochism at its finest!
I can see it now, you buy a Disco and the two Frenchies get jealous and just sort of have both an electrical and mechanical meltdown right before your eyes. In that case you would probably drive the Disco which would then simultaneously blow the head gaskets, and have an alarm system seizure.

Or they might try and reenact the 100 year wars, in my garage. I'm either going to buy a 164 or a P38 (now perhaps a disco2) next year.

If its not too expensive and you like it , go for it ! ( Thats what I did going from a plush german car to an old Japan import)
Less to go wrong and with a massive aftermarket parts selection out there, a Defender would be a wiser ( and much cooler choice)
Disco's are too luxurious anyway ;)

So my P38 or Alfa 164 puzzle should be Disco or 164?

Diesel manual, yes please! Rover v8, kill it with fire! I worked for a rover shop for 2.5 years, there were always at least 2 had gasket jobs coming through per week, at least, in a 6 bay shop. Also at least one cracked/slipped liner engine replacement job per month, at least. In that time span I saw the value of used engines go from about $800 to $3k-4k because there are very few good ones left. The 4.6's are the worst because they punched the bore out so far that the cylinder walls are only about .080" thick (which is the same as the 4.0) but have more power and compression pushing against them. The rover v8 has absolutely no redeeming qualities.

That's fantastic! We can both take solace in knowing that we are suffering together! Would you be considering a P38 Rangie, or just a Disco?
In between the Discovery and the Alfa I actually had a Honda Del Sol, but that was rear-ended by a man running from the cops and totaled.
I am going to check the Alfa out on Tuesday, so if I end up with it I'll be sure to share some pictures with Oppo.

Damnit, I think they shipped only a couple Diesels here, most of them are V8. I'll hunt for one. Would it be more reliable than a P38?

Guess we'll be brothers is Alfas haha. I wanted a weekend cruiser from the 80's, I narrowed the choices to either a 164 v6 or a P38. But now I'll add the Disco 2 to the mix.

Yes, because the p38 has lots of stupid electrical issues where discos really don't. If you have to get a d2 go for 99-02, perhaps a Westminster. 03 is the biggest no no. But if you have to have a face lifted version, make sure it's an 04. Also if you can find one without air injection that would be good because that system is also problematic and expensive only early ones came this way. Without sunroofs is good too because they leak a lot.
